Janice Tjen Advances to the 2026 Monterrey Open Quarterfinals After Defeating the Second Seed.

Janice Tjen has once again posted a positive result at the 2026 WTA 500 Monterrey Open. Partnered with Polish professional player Katarzyna Piter, Janice successfully secured qualification to the quarter-final round.

Janice and Piter had to battle hard to overcome the second-seeded pairing of Shuai Zhang / Xinyu Jiang. This Round of 16 fixture was played on the hard courts of Club Sonoma, Monterrey, Mexico, on Monday local WIB time.

The Indonesia-Poland combination eventually emerged as winners after a three-set contest, with the final scoreline reading 6-2, 6-7(5), 10-7.

Janice Tjen / Piter Stage Comeback In The Deciding Match Tie-Break

Janice and Piter brought aggressive, high-tempo play right from the first point of the match. They earned two service breaks against Zhang/Jiang and established an early 3-0 lead.

This advantage was held firmly through the remainder of the opening set, as Janice and Piter closed out the first frame with a comfortable 6-2 win.

The contest tightened dramatically in the second set. Both pairs delivered consistent serving performances, with neither side able to open a meaningful gap on the scoreboard.

With the set locked at 6-6, the second frame went to a standard tie-break. Zhang and Jiang executed more effectively during this phase, taking the tie-break 7-5 to win the set 7-6(5).

This split set result sent the match to a championship tie-break to determine the overall winner.

Janice and Piter found themselves in an early hole, trailing 1-3 at the start of the deciding tie-break. However, they quickly regained their rhythm and pulled the score back level at 3-3.

The deadlock continued all the way to 7-7. In the closing critical moments, Janice and Piter kept their composure, reeling off three straight points to lock in the 10-7 tie-break victory.

Janice Tjen Remains On Course For Potential All-Indonesian Final

Match statistics also highlighted Janice and Piter's overall edge during the contest. They finished the match with 78 total points won, compared to just 61 points recorded by Zhang and Jiang.

Janice and Piter also held a clear advantage on return games, earning 28 points from returning opponent serves against only 15 return points won by the Chinese pairing.

This victory also marks revenge for Janice and Piter, who had previously been eliminated by Zhang and Jiang in the first round of the 2026 Cincinnati Open after another three-set battle.

Janice will now continue her Monterrey campaign alongside Piter. Notably, the prospect of an all-Indonesian women's doubles final remains alive at this event.

Janice and Piter are placed on the opposite half of the tournament draw from the pairing of Aldila Sutjiadi / Liu Kichenok. Should both pairs win all their remaining fixtures, an all-Indonesian final at the 2026 Monterrey Open is a very realistic possibility.

Alongside her doubles commitments, Janice is also still competing in the women's singles draw. The 24-year old Jakarta native holds the 7th seed position in the singles event.

For her opening singles match, Janice is scheduled to face Ukrainian player Dayana Yastremska on Tuesday (25/8).
