Kolkata - Carlo Ancelotti made massive squad rotations. Samuel Lino got his chance. And Brazil departed Kolkata with a resounding victory.

Brazil defeated India 4-0 in the FIFA Matchday fixture held at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (also known as Salt Lake Stadium), Kolkata, on Saturday 3 October 2026 WIB. Estevao, Pedro and Samuel Lino registered the goals for this win, with Lino netting a brace.

This result was far more than just a high-scoring win for Brazil. The fixture gave Ancelotti the opportunity to test his squad depth, after making 8 changes to the starting line-up that had previously beaten Australia 4-2.

Only Vinicius Junior, Danilo and Gabriel Bontempo retained their starting places.

This call ultimately produced one of the most compelling storylines of the entire match: Samuel Lino's breakout performance.

Estevao Breaks The Deadlock

India refused to cede space right from kick-off.

The hosts set up a tight, compact defensive block, working to deny Brazil room to build passing combinations around the penalty area. This tactic held effectively for almost half an hour.

Eventually though, Brazil's individual quality shone through.

In the 28th minute, Estevao cut inside from the right flank before firing a left-footed shot towards the near post.

The ball found the net. Brazil took a 1-0 lead.

This goal completely shifted the match dynamic. India could no longer sit deep passively, and Brazil began to find the gaps that had previously been locked shut.

Estevao was once again at the centre of action in the 42nd minute.

The Chelsea winger played a perfectly weighted through ball that split open India's defence. Pedro ran onto the pass and finished cleanly, doubling Brazil's advantage to 2-0.

Brazil entered the half-time break in a comfortable position.

India continued to hold their defensive shape. Brazil remained in full control of proceedings.

But Ancelotti was not done experimenting with his side.

Lino Enters, The Game Shifts

At the start of the second half, Ancelotti made a number of substitutions, including bringing on Samuel Lino to replace Vinicius Junior.

This change paid off almost immediately.

In the 58th minute, Brazil scored their third goal through Lino.

India attempted to build out from the back, only for Douglas Luiz to win back possession. The ball was worked to Pedro, who laid off a perfectly timed pass for Lino.

Lino made no mistake with the chance.

His finish put Brazil 3-0 up, and also marked his first ever senior goal for the Brazilian national team.

For Ancelotti, this is exactly the value of fixtures like this: once the result is safely under control, fringe players who need game time get the chance to demonstrate what they can offer.

And Lino would go on to make even more of his opportunity.

Lino's Brace Sends A Clear Message To Ancelotti

India continued to push for a consolation goal. Ryan Williams and Manvir Singh created threatening moments, but Brazil's defence held firm to protect their clean sheet.

As the match entered stoppage time, Lino found space once again.

In the 90+4th minute, the Brazilian winger drove forward from the left flank into India's defensive third, beat two opposition players before firing a low driven shot towards the near post.

Goal.

Brazil 4, India 0.

Lino had scored twice on what proved to be a landmark match for his international career.

While his first goal demonstrated clinical finishing composure, his second showcased his confidence running with the ball and ability to pick gaps between opposition defenders.

Brazil saw out the remaining seconds to seal the four-goal shutout victory.

Brazil Wrap Up International Tour On A High

This win over India concludes Brazil's FIFA international window tour which included fixtures in Australia and India.

Prior to this match, the Selecao faced Australia twice: they drew 1-1 in Townsville on 25 September, before securing a 4-2 victory in Brisbane on 29 September.

With this 4-0 win in Kolkata, Brazil end the window with a record of two wins and one draw from three matches.

This series of fixtures also allowed Carlo Ancelotti to give game time to several players outside his usual first-choice line-up. From this final match, Samuel Lino emerged as the standout performer after his two-goal haul.

These goals did not just help secure Brazil's dominant 4-0 win, they also give Lino vital momentum as he fights for a regular place in the Selecao squad for future international fixtures.

This Kolkata fixture also carries historic significance: it marked the first ever senior men's international meeting between Brazil and India.

Brazil will return to international action in November, scheduled to face Japan on 14 November and Singapore on 17 November, with both matches being hosted in Singapore.
