Last-Minute Drama Marks Everton vs Manchester United Clash, The Red Devils Throw Away Victory

Manchester United dropped points once again on matchweek three of the 2026/27 Premier League season. Travelling to Everton's home ground, the Red Devils twice held the lead before being forced to settle for a 2-2 draw.

The fixture, hosted at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, was fiercely contested right until the final minutes. Manchester United had been on the brink of victory before Everton netted their injury time equaliser.

This result leaves Manchester United with just four points from three matches. Michael Carrick's side currently occupy 11th position in the provisional league standings.

Everton meanwhile sit one place above Manchester United. David Moyes' squad have collected five points from three games to rank 8th, according to official Premier League website data.

Manchester United Dominant, But Failed To Score In The First Half

Manchester United took immediate attacking initiative from kick-off. The Red Devils created their first clear chance of the game as the match reached the 7th minute.

Bruno Fernandes spotted space outside the penalty area and unleashed a first-time strike. However, the captain's effort did not pay off as the ball crashed squarely against Everton's crossbar.

Another threat came from Youri Tielemans in the 18th minute. The midfielder tested Jordan Pickford with a long range effort, but the Everton goalkeeper remained alert to secure the situation.

Matheus Cunha was presented with an opportunity in the 22nd minute. Receiving the ball just inside the penalty area, Cunha attempted to convert the chance but sent his shot too high over the bar.

As the first half drew to a close, Everton began to find their playing rhythm. Thierno Barry almost put the home side ahead when he met a cross with a headed effort in the 43rd minute, only for the ball to sail over the goalframe.

Everton threatened once more in first half stoppage time. Jarrad Branthwaite was perfectly positioned to meet a loose rebound ball and direct his shot towards the bottom left corner.

However, Senne Lammens produced an excellent reflex save to deny the chance. The first half ended goalless.

Mbeumo And Sesko Put United Ahead, Everton Refuse To Surrender

Manchester United did not take long to break the deadlock after the half time interval. Just one minute into the second half, Bryan Mbeumo put the visitors 1-0 up.

Mbeumo hit a powerful strike from outside the penalty box. The ball flew hard into the bottom left corner, well out of Pickford's reach.

Falling a goal behind saw Everton ramp up their attacking intensity. Brennan Johnson looked for an opening with an effort from outside the area in the 58th minute, but his shot was blocked by a Manchester United player.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall then had two separate chances to level the scores for Everton. The first arrived in the 59th minute, with a second opportunity following nine minutes later.

Once again Lammens stood in the way. The Manchester United goalkeeper reacted sharply to deny both of Dewsbury-Hall's attempts.

Everton's pressure finally paid off in the 83rd minute. Tyrique George received a pass from Hayden Hackney inside the penalty area before firing a shot into the top right corner.

The scoreline became 1-1.

Manchester United wasted little time in retaking the lead. Six minutes later, the Red Devils scored their second goal through Benjamin Sesko.

Luke Shaw delivered a floated cross into the penalty area, which Sesko met with a well placed header that found the back of Everton's net.

Manchester United were back ahead 2-1 and appeared to be closing in on all three points.

But there was still late drama to come.

In the 90+6th minute of the match, Everton produced the moment that would turn the game on its head. Ainsley Maitland-Niles latched onto a rebound ball before firing a spectacular strike into the top left corner.

This goal levelled the scores once again at 2-2.

There was not enough remaining time for Manchester United to search for a winning goal. The full time whistle blew shortly after, with the score remaining 2-2.

With this result, the Red Devils return home with just a single point from their trip to Everton's ground. The lead they built on two separate occasions could not be held until the final whistle.
