Indonesia Men's National Volleyball Team Secures First Victory at the 2026 Asian Games

Aichi, Japan - The Indonesian Men's Volleyball National Team secured their first win at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after defeating Kyrgyzstan 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-15) in the second Pool B fixture held at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium, Aichi, Japan on Monday (28/9/2026).

The three additional points take Indonesia's total to 4 points from two matches, placing them temporarily at the top of Pool B. This position remains subject to change, as not all group matches have been completed.

This victory over Kyrgyzstan also served as an important response following Indonesia's narrow 2-3 defeat against Thailand in the opening match on Sunday (27/9). In that fixture, Indonesia lost 23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25 but still earned one competition point for taking the match the full five sets.

After the gruelling battle against Thailand, Indonesia produced far more consistent form against Kyrgyzstan. Reidel Toiran's squad maintained steady, controlled play and closed out the match in straight sets.

The first set was tightly contested from the start, with both teams trading points blow for blow. Indonesia eventually found their rhythm to build a 13-11 advantage.

Kyrgyzstan refused to allow Indonesia to pull away, applying sustained pressure until the scores were locked again at 21-21, pushing the set into its critical closing phase.

Indonesia kept their composure through the final decisive points. After continued back-and-forth play, the Red and White squad finally secured the first set 27-25.

The second set also began as an even contest. Indonesia held an early 6-5 lead, before Kyrgyzstan raised their intensity to turn the tables and pull ahead 19-15.

This setback did not unsettle Indonesia. Farhan Halim and his teammates responded with aggressive, sharp play, stringing together consecutive points to retake the lead at 21-19.

Indonesia carried this momentum through to the end of the set, closing it out 25-21 to extend their match lead to 2-0.

By the third set, Indonesia had settled fully into their game flow. Their consistent advantage left Kyrgyzstan unable to mount the same level of pressure they had produced in the previous two sets.

Indonesia's form only grew more solid as the set progressed. The Red and White team eventually closed the final set 25-15, sealing the 3-0 victory and the full three competition points.

This result keeps Indonesia in contention for one of the two top Pool B positions that qualify for the Quarter Finals. This win over Kyrgyzstan does not yet guarantee Indonesia progression to the knockout stage.

Pool B features Indonesia, Iran, Thailand and Kyrgyzstan. Having completed two matches, Indonesia have one remaining group fixture that will decide their final group standing.

The Red and White squad are scheduled to face Iran on Tuesday (29/9). This match will give Indonesia the chance to carry their current momentum forward, while improving their chances of finishing the group stage in a Quarter Final qualifying position.

With this victory against Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia have successfully responded to their opening match defeat with a full three point haul. All focus now turns to Iran, Indonesia's final Pool B opponent who will provide the next major test for Reidel Toiran's squad.
