Thailand national team star Chanathip Songkrasin carries major ambitions ahead of facing Indonesia National Team in the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup Final.
This clash between two Southeast Asian Football powerhouses will be hosted at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta on Monday, 5 October 2026, kicking off at 20.00 WIB.
For Chanathip, victory over Indonesia is not only critical for securing the trophy. A positive result in this headline match is also expected to deliver a major morale boost for Thailand before they face the Garuda Squad once again at the 2027 Asian Cup.

"If we come out on top, we will meet Indonesia again at the Asian Cup. So this win will absolutely strengthen our confidence," Chanathip stated during the pre-match press conference at SUGBK on Sunday.
Thailand and Indonesia have indeed been drawn into the same group for the Saudi Arabia-hosted 2027 Asian Cup. Both sides are placed in Group F alongside Japan and Qatar.
This context gives the 2026 ASEAN Cup Final extra weight for Thailand. Victory will act as valuable psychological capital before the two teams meet again in the higher level continental competition.
Chanathip also confirmed that he and his entire squad hold a burning determination to win this final match in Jakarta.
"I am confident every single player on this team also has full belief and wants to claim this win. It is important to build confidence for ourselves, the Thai supporters, the coaching staff, and every member of this squad," said the 32-year-old footballer.
Chanathip's extensive experience in Southeast Asian international tournaments also stands as a key asset for Thailand. He has lifted the regional trophy twice, out of the total seven AFF Cup titles won by the Thai national side historically.
Even though Thailand has long been established as one of the region's dominant football forces, Chanathip emphasised that the FIFA ASEAN Cup title still holds unique significance, especially given the competition's new official format and status.
In terms of FIFA world rankings, Thailand also sits above Indonesia. Thailand currently holds 93rd position globally, while Vietnam ranks 99th and Indonesia stands at 117th place.
Despite this ranking advantage, Thailand will not underestimate this final fixture. Chanathip instead framed this match as a chance to carve out a new historic achievement for the national team.
"This is the very first time FIFA has ever run a competition like this. I have discussed this with the coaching team. We want to make history. That is the most important thing," stated the player who has earned 77 caps and scored 15 goals for the War Elephants squad.
The upcoming Indonesia vs Thailand clash at SUGBK is widely predicted to be a fiercely fought affair. Beyond competing for the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup trophy, both sides are also looking ahead to their scheduled rematch at the 2027 Asian Cup.
For Thailand, victory in Jakarta will form an important foundation to build confidence. For Indonesia meanwhile, this home fixture at SUGBK presents a chance to conclude the tournament with the championship trophy in front of their own supporters.
