Marukawa's desire to become an Indonesian citizen comes from his deep connection with the country, after building his professional Football career for almost six seasons in domestic Indonesian competitions. The 29-year old athlete has shared that he feels fully comfortable living in Indonesia.
Marukawa even stated that he has fallen in love with Indonesia. The warmth and kindness of local people are the main reasons this Japanese-born player feels so at home building his life in the country.
According to Marukawa, all his experiences while living in Indonesia have only strengthened his resolve to complete the naturalization process. He stated that life in Indonesia has brought him nothing but positive experiences throughout his career as a professional footballer.
"I love Indonesia very much. Everyone here is so welcoming, and I feel truly happy spending my time in this country," Marukawa said.
Marukawa's journey in Indonesian Football started during the 2021/2022 Liga 1 season. He joined Persebaya Surabaya after previously playing professionally in the Malta League.
After leaving Persebaya, Marukawa continued his career with PSIS Semarang. He later joined Dewa United, and remains an active player for the Super League club to this day.
Throughout his career in Indonesia, Marukawa did not only gain playing experience across multiple clubs. He also built close bonds with the local football community and wider Indonesian public, which ultimately led him to pursue changing his citizenship status.
Should the naturalization process be completed, Marukawa has a clear major goal: he wants to wear the official jersey of Indonesian National Team.
"My biggest dream is to become part of the Indonesian National Team. To be able to represent Indonesia on the pitch will be the greatest possible honor for me," Marukawa explained.
This ambition will mark an entirely new chapter in Marukawa's professional career if his naturalization application receives official approval. His years of experience playing in domestic Indonesian competitions will act as a solid foundation to adapt to the national team environment.
Statistically, Marukawa has built an extensive track record in Indonesian competitions. Across nearly six seasons, he has recorded 161 appearances with 36 goals, 44 assists, and a total of 12,949 minutes of playing time.
Marukawa still has to await the remaining administrative proceedings before proceeding further. If all naturalization stages are completed successfully, his dream to represent the Indonesian National Team will enter its next phase.
