Spanish golfer Jon Rahm has chosen to end his tenure with LIV Golf. Rahm rejected the terms offered for the league's revamped iteration, LIV 2.0. Both parties are now moving towards formalising a separation agreement.
This decision comes as LIV Golf remains under Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the United States.
The circuit lost financial backing from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) following the conclusion of the season. Over the prior four years, the sovereign fund had injected approximately 5 billion USD into the league.

Amid the ongoing restructuring process, the status and futures of contracted players have emerged as one of the core unresolved issues.
Multiple golfers, including Sergio Garcia, have already received court approval to be exempted from automatic contract suspension, allowing them to pursue alternative playing opportunities for the upcoming season.
Rahm was not granted the same exit clearance afforded to Garcia. The standoff entered a new phase once the golfer publicly confirmed he was unwilling to proceed under the proposed LIV 2.0 structure.
"Mr Rahm has independently reviewed the proposed terms for LIV 2.0 and has decided not to accept those terms. He will not be participating further in LIV 2.0," stated attorney John Beck during the bankruptcy hearing, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Alongside Bryson DeChambeau, Rahm was one of the highest Profile star players signed to LIV Golf. Records show he is still owed approximately 150 million USD in outstanding payments for the remainder of the contract he signed almost three years prior.
This massive financial commitment makes Rahm's departure a devastating blow for LIV, particularly as the organisation attempts to rebuild its operational foundation. According to The Athletic, both camps are currently finalising the separation terms, with the agreement expected to be fully concluded by 15 October.
This career shift has been signalled by moves Rahm has made over recent months. Back in May, he settled his long Running dispute with the DP World Tour, paying a £2.21 million fine for competing in conflicting scheduled tournaments.
Following that settlement, Rahm was granted conditional playing release for 2026 and once again became eligible to compete in the Ryder Cup. This action marked the first clear indication the 31 year old golfer was preparing a path back to the traditional professional golf ecosystem.
Rahm had also previously been offered a pathway back to the PGA Tour via the dedicated Returning Member Program. This special scheme was made available exclusively to Rahm, Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
Rahm declined this offer however. Of the four eligible golfers, only Brooks Koepka accepted the PGA Tour's re-entry program.
As a consequence, Rahm will now serve a mandatory one year suspension before he is eligible to return to PGA Tour competition. Should this regulation remain unchanged, he will be cleared to compete again in late August next year.
Separately, Rahm has withdrawn from this week's Open de Espana tournament in Madrid, choosing instead to remain at home with his wife Kelley ahead of the birth of their fourth child.
Rahm's professional career now stands at a crossroads. He has walked away from LIV after finding the LIV 2.0 terms unacceptable, yet a straightforward return to the PGA Tour is also not immediately available to him.
His immediate next step will be finalising the formal separation agreement with LIV Golf. Should this process conclude as planned, Rahm will enter a new chapter of his career facing one major unanswered question: will he make his return to the traditional golf tours, or pursue an entirely different path outside of LIV?
