The Citizens secured the win with three goals that all arrived in the second half. Erling Haaland opened the scoring for the away side, before Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki completed Manchester City's goal haul.

Liverpool and Manchester City Deadlocked in the First Half
Both teams pushed forward with attacking intent immediately from kickoff. However, tight, contested battles across the midfield meant neither Liverpool nor Manchester City could create clear, dangerous chances on the opposition goal.
This deadlock resulted in an evenly balanced opening half. When the referee blew for the interval, no goals had been scored and both sides returned to the dressing rooms level at 0-0.
Liverpool opened the second half with a threatening opportunity. In the 47th minute, Lewis Koumas received a through ball and fired a powerful shot on target.
That effort was denied however by Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Manchester City goalkeeper produced a sharp reflex save to keep his goal unbroken.
Manchester City responded with an attack of their own through Haaland in the 59th minute. The Norwegian striker broke free behind Liverpool's defensive line and advanced on goal, but failed to convert his chance.
Gravenberch Red Card Turns the Tide of the Match
The decisive moment arrived in the 62nd minute, when Ryan Gravenberch was shown a straight red card. This decision forced Liverpool to play the remainder of the match with only 10 players.
Manchester City immediately exploited their numerical advantage. Just three minutes after the dismissal, Haaland broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, finishing from a loose rebound inside the penalty area to put The Citizens 1-0 up.
Manchester City extended their lead shortly after. In the 68th minute, Jeremy Doku penetrated down Liverpool's right defensive flank before striking an accurate finish that found the back of the home net once again.
This second goal allowed Manchester City to take full control of the match. Reduced to 10 men, Liverpool could not match the away side's intensity and pressure.
Rayan Cherki Seals Manchester City's Victory
Manchester City confirmed their 3-0 victory when Rayan Cherki added his name to the scoresheet in the 78th minute.
Cherki showcased his technical quality with a neat one-two passing combination inside the penalty area, before creating space to fire a finish that beat Liverpool Goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Trailing by three goals, Liverpool pushed forward with increased pressure in an attempt to cut the deficit. However, Manchester City's defence contained every home attack until the end of normal time.
The 3-0 scoreline remained until the final whistle. This dominant away win at Anfield sends Manchester City to the top of the provisional 2026/2027 English Premier League standings, while Liverpool face a performance review after failing to collect any points on their own ground.
