Phil Foden Opens The Scoring For Manchester City
Manchester City immediately looked to dominate the game in front of their home supporters. The hosts' pressure paid off in the 19th minute via Phil Foden.
The English midfielder converted Jeremy Doku's pass with a first-time shot from inside the penalty area. Ipswich Town Goalkeeper Christian Walton could not stop the effort, putting City ahead 1-0.
This lead was short lived however. Ipswich levelled the score at 1-1 just two minutes later through Daizen Maeda.
The Japanese forward received a through ball from Abdoul Ouattara, beat Marc Guehi, and slotted his finish past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Manchester City retook the lead in the 34th minute. Erling Haaland met Mateo Kovacic's cross with an accurate header to put the home side 2-1 up.
This scoreline held going into half time, despite both sides continuing to build attacking moves.
Erling Haaland Extends Lead, Ipswich Mount Fightback
After the restart, Manchester City increased pressure to extend their advantage. Nico O'Reilly went close with a headed effort, but his attempt drifted wide of the Ipswich goal.
Haaland registered his second goal in the 69th minute. The Norwegian striker latched onto Iliman Ndiaye's pass following a penetrating attacking move, producing another clinical finish that left Walton helpless to make it 3-1.
Haaland appeared to complete a hat-trick in the 86th minute after converting Enzo Fernandez's cross, but the goal was ruled out after VAR confirmed Fernandez was offside during the build-up.
Ipswich Town refused to surrender and continued pushing to reduce the deficit. The visitors won a penalty in the 90th minute when Fatawu was fouled by Guehi inside the box.
The referee pointed to the spot, and Zian Flemming took the kick. He placed his shot down the centre of the goal to pull one back, making the score 3-2.
Manchester City Hold On Under Late Pressure
Flemming's goal set up a nervy finish. With 12 minutes of stoppage time added, Manchester City had to maintain full concentration to protect their lead.
Ipswich launched repeated attacking waves searching for an equaliser, but City's defence held firm to repel every visiting effort until the final whistle.
This 3-2 victory secures all three points for Manchester City at the Etihad. Erling Haaland's brace proved the deciding factor as The Citizens retained top position in the English Premier League Standings for the 2026/27 season.
Ipswich Town meanwhile returned home empty handed, despite putting up a fierce challenge right until the final moments of the match.
