PSS Sleman Take The Lead First
Playing in front of their home supporters, Persebaya immediately looked to seize control of the match from kickoff. The hosts built attacks from the backline, attempting to break down PSS Sleman's well-disciplined defensive setup.
Persebaya's first clear chance arrived in the 6th minute. Alex Martins Ferreira found himself one-on-one with PSS Goalkeeper Pedro Caracoci de Oliveira, but his close-range strike was denied by the visiting shot-stopper.
Instead of opening the scoring, Persebaya conceded first. In the 8th minute, Melvyn Lorenzen perfectly converted a free kick, placing the ball into the top-left corner of Ernando Ari Sutaryadi's goal.
This goal put PSS Sleman ahead 1-0, forcing Persebaya to ramp up their attacking intensity. The visitors threatened again in the 25th minute, but their effort sailed over the crossbar.
Persebaya kept pressing as the first half neared its end. The hosts' sustained possession dominance finally paid off with an equaliser in the 36th minute.
Starting from a corner kick situation, Miguel Pereira powered a header that the PSS goalkeeper could not keep out. The scoreline became 1-1.
Bajul Ijo almost turned the game around just three minutes later via a fierce strike from Gledson, but Pedro Caracoci managed to protect his goal.
Another threat came in the 40th minute through Yuran Fernandes' headed effort, though the ball drifted just wide of the PSS Sleman goal.
No further goals were scored for the rest of the first half, with the 1-1 score holding at the half-time break.
Hiromu Tanaka Restores PSS Sleman's Lead
As the second half got underway, Persebaya once again took command of the game. The hosts used their possession advantage to pin back PSS Sleman's defence and create opportunities.
In the 46th minute, Malik Risaldi got on the end of a cross to head goalwards, but his attempt was once again stopped by Pedro Caracoci.
Persebaya threatened again as Diogo Ramalho and Toni Firmansyah both fired close-range efforts, however both attempts missed the target.
Against the run of home pressure, PSS Sleman struck to retake the lead in the 61st minute. Hiromu Tanaka finished off a counter-attack with a right-footed strike after receiving a pass from Gustavo Tocantins.
Tanaka's shot deflected off a Persebaya defender, altering the ball's trajectory and wrongfooting Ernando Ari. PSS thus retook the lead at 2-1.
Persebaya looked for an immediate response. In the 65th minute, Jose Walber Mota got a headed chance from Jefferson Silva's cross, but the PSS goalkeeper reacted quickly to make the save.
As the match entered its closing stages, Persebaya pushed relentlessly for an equaliser. Substitute Saddil Ramdani went close with a free kick in the 82nd minute, but the ball drifted just wide of PSS' left goalpost.
Miguel Pereira Rescues Persebaya In The 90+1st Minute
Just as PSS Sleman looked set to claim all three points, Persebaya finally found their equaliser deep in stoppage time. Miguel Pereira got his name on the scoresheet once more in the 90+1st minute.
The goal came from a perfectly weighted cross from Yann Mabella which Pereira met with a clinical header. This finish levelled the score at 2-2, and denied PSS Sleman the chance to take victory away from Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium.
With the scores level again, Persebaya threw everything forwards in the remaining time to hunt for a late winner. With six minutes of stoppage time awarded, Bajul Ijo continued to pile pressure on the visiting defence.
However, PSS Sleman held firm against the home side's onslaught. No further goals were scored before the referee blew the full-time whistle, confirming the final 2-2 draw.
This result means Persebaya missed the chance to claim maximum points on home ground. Nevertheless, Miguel Pereira's brace ensured Bajul Ijo walked away with one point from this tightly contested fixture.
