TMRW Golf League (TGL) has entered new historical territory as Shane Lowry becomes the first ever player to transfer teams since the technology-backed golf competition launched. The Irish professional golfer will line up for Boston Common Golf alongside Rory McIlroy for the 2027 season.
Lowry departs The Bay GC after representing the club for TGL's first two full seasons. This transfer forms part of pre-season preparations for the competition's third instalment, which combines traditional golf rules with immersive arena technology at the SoFi Centre, Florida.
Boston Common Golf is Lowry's new home. At the side, he will play alongside McIlroy - a five-time major tournament champion, and one of the original co-founders of TGL alongside Tiger Woods and Mike McCarley.

Wider squad restructuring is taking place league-wide ahead of the new season. TGL has expanded the allowed player roster per team to five people, giving all competing clubs greater flexibility to build their squads for the upcoming campaign.
Prior to Lowry's arrival, Boston Common Golf already featured United States Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, plus two Masters champions: Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama who competed for the side last season.
Rory McIlroy Welcomes Shane Lowry To Boston Common Golf
This transfer is far more than just a routine roster swap for Boston Common Golf. McIlroy has warmly welcomed his long-time friend to the team, with the pair having previously partnered together to secure major competitive victories.
Lowry is the 2019 Open Championship winner. McIlroy stated that Lowry's on-course ability and unwavering commitment to team success will be an invaluable asset for the coming season.
"We have shared some very special wins together, including at the Zurich Classic. I know exactly the standard he can deliver, and just how much he cares about delivering results for every one of his teammates," stated McIlroy.
McIlroy also made clear his excitement at being reunited as official teammates with Lowry.
"I am absolutely delighted to welcome him to Boston Common Golf, and I cannot wait to see what we can achieve together this season," he added.
The pair already have proven experience competing together in team golf tournaments. This existing partnership is expected to help them build fast on-court chemistry competing under TGL's unique competition format.
Shane Lowry Targets Championship Silverware For Boston
Lowry has reacted positively to the opportunity to join McIlroy's side. The 39-year-old golfer explained he is eager for this fresh challenge following two full seasons representing The Bay GC.
"I am absolutely thrilled to make this move and team up with Rory for the new season," Lowry commented.
He noted that the chance to work alongside McIlroy, and be part of Boston Common Golf's established squad made this transfer an extremely compelling opportunity.
"Having Rory alongside me, and getting to join this group makes this all so exciting. I cannot wait to help this team bring a championship trophy home to Boston," he said.
Lowry arrives in strong form, having claimed victory at the Irish Open in Doonbeg just this September. His recent competitive experience and proven track record are expected to significantly boost Boston Common Golf's title prospects for 2027.
The Bay GC Receives Formal Transfer Compensation
As agreed terms for the Lowry transfer, The Bay GC will receive Boston Common Golf's 4th round draft pick to fill the now vacant roster position.
The Bay GC will also be granted one additional priority Player Selection right for any of the next three seasons, on top of agreed commercial compensation.
This agreement marks the very first official Player Transfer in TGL history, and represents a new milestone for squad management across all teams in the league.
Elsewhere, the lineup for the upcoming season is already taking shape. New TGL expansion franchise Motor City Golf Club has announced five-time major champion Brooks Koepka as their first signed player, adding another elite global name to the competition.
With Lowry completing his move to Boston Common Golf and Koepka signing for Motor City Golf Club, the 2027 TGL season is set to deliver fierce competition featuring many of the world's top ranked professional golfers.
