LIV Golf expects its restructuring process to be completed by early 2027. As part of this process, player contracts have been discharged through bankruptcy mechanisms, meaning players are no longer obligated to remain affiliated with LIV Golf moving forward.

The future of LIV Golf is now highly uncertain after Saudi Arabia withdrew its multi-billion dollar funding support for the tour.

In September, LIV filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States as part of this court-supervised restructuring process.

During Wednesday's court hearing, the court rejected 19 active player contracts, including the agreements held by Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson.

This ruling had been delayed from the previous week's hearing, as players pushed for formal certainty over the contract release terms.

Since its launch in 2021, LIV Golf recruited numerous high-profile stars from the global Golf world. Amid the current funding crisis however, LIV still holds outstanding payment obligations to its players totalling at least 45 million US Dollars, equivalent to approximately 33 million British Pounds.

Given this situation, the proposed launch of LIV 2.0 is entirely dependent on successfully reorganising the tour's corporate structure, securing new funding, and obtaining player commitments for upcoming seasons.

Patrick Reed And Rory McIlroy Address DP World Tour Position

Against the backdrop of LIV Golf's instability, multiple players have publicly commented on the dynamic between the breakaway league and established traditional golf tours.

Patrick Reed, current leader of the Race to Dubai Standings who departed LIV Golf in January, confirmed he has been welcomed warmly since returning to compete full time on the DP World Tour.

"Spending this entire season competing exclusively on this tour has been something I've really enjoyed. I get the sense the other players are glad I'm here, glad to see me back competing", Reed was quoted as stating by BBC.

"I haven't felt any difference in treatment at all. The players accepted me completely from my very first day back."

Reed acknowledged that some players may take issue if former LIV golfers only return to enter high-profile major tournaments. He noted his own experience differed however, as he has entered every tier of event on the calendar.

"I fully understand why players would resent people only showing up for the big flagship events."

"I came back and played everything: the small events, mid-tier tournaments, and the majors. That is why I have not received any different treatment."

Meanwhile, six-time major champion Rory McIlroy assessed that LIV Golf is currently in an extremely precarious position. He added that the DP World Tour had already extended significant leniency to players exiting LIV.

"The DP World Tour is fully within its rights to amend its rules and regulations", McIlroy stated during the pre-tournament press conference for the DP World India Championship.

"This is standard practice to protect their Business interests, and build this tour to be as strong as possible."

On Tuesday, McIlroy also told Bloomberg that he supports permitting players who have left LIV Golf to return to the PGA Tour.

He added that the breakaway league no longer presents the same level of threat to traditional golf tours that it did in previous years.

With a critical end-of-October deadline fast approaching, LIV Golf faces two simultaneous make-or-break challenges. Alongside keeping its restructuring process on schedule, the tour must also retain enough active players to simply operate the league at all.
