Calvin Verdonk played the full 90 minutes, but could not help Lille avoid defeat as they hosted Galatasaray in the 2026/2027 Champions League fixture. Playing at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Lille on Wednesday evening WIB, the Indonesian National Team defender watched his side fall 2-4, despite having taken the lead during the first half.
This result deals a blow for Lille who continue to struggle for points in Europe's elite club competition. This defeat leaves the French club ranked 35th in the provisional Standings, the second lowest position, with zero points collected from three matches played.
Verdonk was deployed in his preferred natural position for this match, replacing Romain Perraud. He stayed on the pitch for the entire duration of the game, even as Lille failed to halt the visiting side's comeback.

Galatasaray secured their win with goals from Yunus Akgun in the 2nd minute, Aleksei Batrakov just before half-time, an own goal by Nabil Bentaleb in the 52nd minute, and a strike from Victor Osimhen in the 61st minute. Lille fought back with two goals from 19-year old winger Soriba Diaoune, scored in the 7th and 39th minutes.
Galatasaray Scores An Early Goal
Just two minutes into the match, Galatasaray shocked the home side. Yunus Akgun capitalised on a loose rebound to put the Turkish representatives 1-0 up.
Lille responded quickly. In the 7th minute, Soriba Diaoune finished off an accurate through ball from Alexandro to level the score at 1-1. Diaoune's goal lifted the home side's confidence after the early setback.
Verdonk was involved in Lille's attempts to build attacks from the defensive line. The Indonesian defender delivered multiple crosses over the course of the match, though none were successfully converted into goals.
Defensively, Verdonk faced a difficult assignment. Galatasaray's forward line applied constant pressure, including dangerous runs from Victor Osimhen targeting Lille's left defensive flank.
Despite the pressure, Lille turned the game around in the 39th minute. Diaoune once again showed clinical finishing to convert a pass from Hakon Haraldsson.
His second goal put Lille ahead 2-1, raising hopes of finally registering points in the competition.
This lead was short lived. Right before the half time break, Roland Sallai got past Verdonk before delivering the cross that Alexey Batrakov finished for the equaliser. The 2-2 scoreline held until the end of the first half.
Galatasaray Turns The Game Around In The Second Half
After the interval, Galatasaray came out playing far more aggressively and retook the lead in the 52nd minute. This time Lille handed their opponents the goal themselves, when midfielder Nabil Bentaleb scored an own goal.
This goal completely shifted match momentum. Lille were forced to chase the game once again, while Galatasaray grew in confidence pushing forward with attacks.
The visitors' pressure produced another goal in the 61st minute. Victor Osimhen finally got on the scoresheet after receiving a pass from Baris Yilmaz. The Nigerian striker put Galatasaray 4-2 ahead, extending their advantage to two clear goals.
Verdonk remained on the pitch as Lille head coach Davide Ancelotti made a series of substitutions attempting to change the flow of the match.
Olivier Giroud was among the players brought on to add attacking threat. Lille pushed hard for the remainder of the match to close the deficit, but their efforts did not produce any further goals.
