The result also demonstrated Janice and Hunter's ability to handle pressure during critical match stages. After dropping the opening set, the pair adjusted their game and maintained composure through the super tie-break to seal the win.
In the first set, Janice and Hunter were unable to establish consistent control over match flow. Lee and Wu capitalised on several key games to build their advantage before closing out the opening set 6-4.
Janice and Hunter adjusted their approach for the second set, producing far more solid service games while stepping up attacking pressure.
This paid off as they took the second set 6-3, forcing the match into a deciding third set played under super tie-break rules.
The contest remained tight as both pairs traded points, before Janice and Hunter closed out the super tie-break 10-6 to claim victory.
Match statistics also reflected the edge held by the Indonesia-Australia pairing, who won 53 percent of total points compared to 48 percent recorded by Lee and Wu.
Janice and Hunter committed 28 unforced errors, significantly fewer than the 43 unforced errors tallied by their opponents.
On serving statistics, the pair hit two aces and conceded just one double fault. Meanwhile Lee and Wu registered one ace and three double faults.
This win over Lee and Wu continues Janice and Hunter's strong run at the Japan Open 2026. In their previous match, they defeated the Brazil-Spain combination Ingrid Martins / Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
As the top seeds in the doubles Draw, Janice and Hunter hold strong prospects to progress deeper in this hard court tournament, which runs 19-25 October. The Japan Open is part of the Asian Swing series at the conclusion of the 2026 professional tennis tour season.
For Janice personally, reaching the doubles semifinal also extends her stay in Osaka after she was eliminated from the singles draw. The Indonesian tennis player fell to United States representative Ashlyn Krueger 4-6, 4-6 in the Round of 32.
Janice and Hunter's next challenge will be to carry this positive momentum into the semifinal stage.
They will face the winner of the Quarter Final clash between third seeds Ingrid Neel / Giuliana Olmos and Isabelle Haverlag / Lilli Tagger.
