Former England National Team Star Charged With Three Traffic Offences, Faces Jail Time

Former England national team player Raheem Sterling is facing serious legal trouble after being charged with multiple offences relating to a traffic accident in the United Kingdom. The 31-year-old footballer faces potential prison time if found guilty of the charges brought against him.

Sterling was charged following his involvement in a single-vehicle crash while driving a Lamborghini on the M3 motorway in Hampshire on 28 May 2026. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police confirmed that multiple suspected violations are linked to this incident.

"Sterling, aged 31, from Berkshire, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C controlled substance, and failure to provide a specimen," a spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police stated, as quoted by The Telegraph on Wednesday.

According to reports from The Sun, Sterling could face imprisonment if convicted on the dangerous driving charge as well as the related drug offences.

Sterling's Lamborghini Crashes On M3 Motorway

The incident occurred shortly before 09.00 local time along the M3 highway in Hampshire. The Lamborghini driven by Sterling was reported to be moving erratically before crashing near the Minley Interchange.

Police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

"No other vehicles were involved and no injuries have been recorded," the police statement read.

Despite the lack of injuries, the incident developed into a formal legal case. Sterling was formally charged after investigations into the crash were completed.

This case will proceed to court, marking the latest legal challenge faced by the former Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City player.

Sterling Scheduled For Court Hearing

Sterling is scheduled to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on 15 September 2026.

This hearing will be a critical stage that will determine the progression of the case, and whether Sterling will be found guilty of the charges laid against him.
