Jonatan Christie Complains About Early Morning Schedules After Reaching the Quarter-Finals of the 2026 Asian Games.

Jonatan Christie has successfully advanced to the Quarter Finals of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. However, this victory for the Indonesian Men's Singles badminton athlete was secured under far from ideal conditions.

Jonatan raised complaints regarding the Match Schedule for the Round of 16 which dragged on until the early hours. He only stepped onto the court at approximately 01.00 Nagoya local time on Sunday, to face Sri Lankan representative Pulikkutty Arachchilage Nettasinghe.

This fixture was the very last match held on Court 1. Before Jonatan competed, this court had been in continuous use from 09.30 that morning, hosting a total of 15 matches that only finished late on Sunday morning.

"I am grateful I managed to get through this very difficult situation. But honestly, I played with a poor mood throughout, because the match started far too late. It was already well past midnight," Jonatan stated in Ichinomiya, Aichi, Japan on Sunday.

This circumstance left Jonatan feeling unsettled before the match. The BWF men's singles World Number 1 even questioned the organising committee's decision to proceed with holding his match on Court 1.

Jonatan noted that the fixture could have been relocated to other courts that had already completed all their scheduled matches much earlier. He stated this situation also disrupted his focus while competing against the Sri Lankan shuttler.

"I was quite frustrated, why wasn't this moved to court three or four which had already finished all their games? This really interfered with my match focus," he added.

Despite having to compete at such an unusual hour, Jonatan still secured the victory. He overcame Nettasinghe's challenge in a three-game battle with final scores of 15-21, 21-13, 21-15.

This result officially confirms Jonatan's progression to the Quarter Final stage of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.

His next challenge is already waiting. In the upcoming quarter final round held on Sunday, Jonatan will face 2021 World Champion Loh Kean Yew from Singapore.

This fixture will be the next test for Jonatan as he continues his campaign to reach the medal podium at the 2026 Asian Games.
