Spectacular Comeback! USA Turned the Tables and Won the 2026 Presidents Cup

United States pulled off a spectacular comeback to claim the 2026 Presidents Cup title, defeating the International Team 17-13 at Medinah Country Club, Illinois, Sunday 27 September 2026.

This victory was all the more dramatic as the United States entered the final day singles matches trailing by three points. The International Team held a 10.5-7.5 lead after three days of competition.

Everything reversed completely on the final day. The United States squad dominated the 12 singles matches, securing 9.5 points while the International Team only managed 2.5. This result saw the US overturn the deficit, while also setting the record for the largest final day comeback in Presidents Cup history.

US Dominated The Singles Session

The United States faced enormous pressure before the singles matches began. They required at least eight points from the 12 fixtures to guarantee the trophy.

However, the US players delivered an immediate and powerful response.

Cameron Young opened the singles session with a win over Ryo Hisatsune. Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler and Chris Gotterup followed up with additional points to close the gap.

Scheffler went on to win 2&1 against Nico Echavarria, in a match that also featured a notable moment of Sportsmanship. When a spectator disrupted Echavarria mid-swing, Scheffler openly expressed disapproval of the action.

After the first six matches concluded, the United States had already collected four wins. Their three point deficit had shrunk down to just one single point.

Momentum then shifted fully in favour of the US. Collin Morikawa defeated Hideki Matsuyama 1-up, followed by Patrick Cantlay who won 2&1 against Adam Scott. Jackson Koivun then delivered a critical victory, fighting back from a trailing position to beat Si Woo Kim 2-up.

Koivun's win brought the United States within reach of the title. US captain Brandt Snedeker gave special praise to the 21 year old player.

"This kid is special. He is different. For a 21 year old to stand out there under that pressure and execute those final two shots the way he did? There are not many people that can pull that off," Snedeker stated.

Jacob Bridgeman Secured The Winning Point

The decisive point finally came from Jacob Bridgeman, who faced Min Woo Lee in a tight contest that went all the way to the 18th hole. Lee scored a bogey on the final hole, while Bridgeman successfully completed the hole for par.

This result gave Bridgeman a 1-up win, which brought the United States to a total of 15.5 points.

With 15.5 points on the board, the International Team could no longer mathematically catch the US, who were officially confirmed as 2026 Presidents Cup champions.

Bridgeman became the key figure of the victory, maintaining his composure to close out the match at the absolute peak of pressure.

Once victory was already secured, two matches remained ongoing. Russell Henley finished tied with Nick Taylor, before Xander Schauffele rounded off the day with a 2&1 win against Ryan Fox.

This brought the final score to 17-13 for the United States.

11th Consecutive Title

The victory at Medinah extends the United States' long Running dominance of the Presidents Cup.

This marks the 11th straight title for the US in this biennial tournament, which pits the United States against an International Team made up of players from outside Europe. All time, the United States now hold an overall Presidents Cup record of 14 wins, 1 defeat and 1 tied contest.

What makes the 2026 victory particularly extraordinary is the manner it was achieved.

The International Team had outperformed the US across the first three days of team play, and became the first ever International side to carry a lead into the singles matches on United States home soil.

Yet the US responded to the pressure by taking 9.5 out of the 12 available singles points.

United States captain Brandt Snedeker noted that this success was rooted entirely in his team's unity.

"This never happens unless you have an exceptional group of players, and that is exactly what we had. I could not be prouder of how this whole squad came together," Snedeker said.

With this 17-13 victory, the United States did not only retain the Presidents Cup trophy, they also delivered one of the most dramatic comebacks ever seen in the tournament's history.

At Medinah, the United States found themselves trailing and on the back foot. But over those final 12 matches, they rewrote the entire Story.
