The 9-2 victory over Bangladesh was far more than just a goal fest for Indonesia National Team. For Ole Romeny and Mitchell Baker, this final Group A fixture of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, has become the wildest match of their entire professional careers.
Indonesia held a comfortable cushion after closing the first half with a 6-1 lead. However, the situation flipped dramatically in the second half: Bangladesh pulled back a goal, while Malaysia kept extending their advantage over Singapore in the parallel group match at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium.
Pressure mounted sharply, as Indonesia required additional goals to lock down the top position in Group A. Ultimately, Garuda found two more goals via Kevin Diks and Mitchell Baker to seal the 9-2 victory alongside their qualification ticket to the final.

Romeny was one of the central architects of Indonesia's win. The Fortuna Sittard forward did not register a goal himself, but delivered four assists over the course of this high-drama encounter.
"This is the craziest match I have ever played. This feeling is unbelievable. Every single time we scored, I would glance over to the bench and they were all screaming 'One more!'. They just kept repeating it, over and over: 'One more!'" Romeny stated after full time.
The 25-year-old described the Bangladesh clash as an extremely high-tension fixture. Tempers even flared at one point after an opposing player scored then made physical contact with Romeny.
"Even after that opponent scored and that player kicked me, I lost my temper for a moment. Looking back, this match really had absolutely everything," Romeny added.
This heavy victory carried critical weight, as Indonesia was locked in a tight head-to-head battle with Malaysia for first place in Group A.
Both sides finished level on 7 points with an identical +9 goal difference, however Indonesia claimed top spot on goals scored: they netted 11 total goals across the group stage, compared to Malaysia's 9.
Romeny admitted deep relief that Indonesia secured their final berth, but stressed the squad's work is not yet complete.
"This is incredible, I'm so happy we have qualified for the final. But we are not done. Right now we have to reset properly, focus and finish this job," said Romeny.
Mitchell Baker Nets 5 Goals
Where Romeny operated as Indonesia's chief playmaker, Baker was the team's ruthless finishing machine. The 19-year-old striker scored five goals against Bangladesh, including Garuda's 9th goal of the night which finally edged Indonesia above Malaysia in the final group Standings.
"I agree, this really is the craziest match I have ever played. But I just want to repeat what the coach said: our supporters were unbelievable. They carried us right through this match," Baker commented.
Indonesia closed out the fixture with the 9-2 win over Bangladesh, officially confirming their place in the tournament final.
"We will enjoy tonight properly, but there is still a final waiting for us. We have to keep pushing, go all out and bring home Indonesia's first title in this competition," said Baker.
His five goals against Bangladesh bring Baker's total senior international tally for Indonesia to 9 goals from just 7 appearances, since he made his national team debut two years ago.
Prior to this match, all four of Baker's previous goals for Garuda had been scored during the 2026 AFF Cup.
However, Baker emphasised that a striker's contribution is never only measured by goals. He pointed to his performance during Indonesia's fixture against Singapore as an example.
"Against Singapore, that 2-0 win, I didn't score. But I still executed my role properly. For the first goal, I made the run to the near post. You do small things like that, and it opens up space for your teammates," Baker explained.
In the grand final, Indonesia will face Group B winners Thailand at SUGBK, Monday 5 October with kick-off scheduled for 20.00 WIB.
