FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026: Indonesia National Team Defeats Singapore 2-0, Ragnar and Romeny Score the Goals

Indonesia National Team began their Group A campaign at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 with a victory. Playing at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK), Jakarta on Friday 25 September, the Garuda Squad defeated Singapore 2-0. 

Indonesia attempted to take control of the match right from the opening minute. Garuda's pressure resulted in a goal in the 13th minute through Ragnar Oratmangoen.

Luke Vickery's cross was finished off by Ragnar with a single touch inside the penalty box. Indonesia took a 1-0 lead and grew increasingly comfortable controlling the flow of the match.

In the second half, Indonesia received an opportunity to double their advantage. Ole Romeny played a ball into open space from the right flank towards Mitchell Baker, though the ball ended up closer to goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud.

Singapore gradually attempted to break out of the pressure. Maarten Paes preserved Indonesia's lead after denying a shot from Singapore substitute Song U Young in the 58th minute.

The dynamic shifted in the 67th minute. Mitchell Baker was fouled by Safuwan Baharudin right outside Singapore's penalty box. Indonesia had both Thom Haye and Kevin Diks available as free kick takers.

However, referee Rustam Lutfullin first reviewed the incident via VAR. The VAR review overturned the on-field decision. Safuwan Baharudin was shown a red card, leaving Singapore to continue the match with 10 players.

Indonesia capitalised on their numerical advantage to extend their lead. Shortly afterwards, Thom Haye's free kick struck Song U Young's hand.

The referee pointed to the penalty spot in the 72nd minute. Ole Romeny stepped up as the penalty taker and executed his duty perfectly, sending his shot past Izwan Mahbud. The score became 2-0 in the 74th minute. 

Holding a two-goal lead, Indonesia comfortably closed out the match to secure victory in their opening Group A fixture.

Despite having the extra player, Indonesia struggled to score a third goal. The Garuda squad continued to press forward, but none of their subsequent attacking sequences produced an additional goal.

Indonesia concluded their opening FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 match with a 2-0 victory over Singapore.
