Indonesia concluded their campaign at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in 16th position on the final medal standings. The Red and White squad secured a total of 39 medals, consisting of 5 gold, 11 silver, and 23 bronze medals.

Indonesia finished one spot below Chinese Taipei, who took 15th place with 5 gold, 17 silver, and 33 bronze medals. Meanwhile, the Philippines ranked 17th with 4 gold, 9 silver, and 16 bronze medals.

The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games were held from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Japan.

Indonesia Secures Five Gold Medals

Indonesia's five gold medals were won across four sports: badminton, weightlifting, sport climbing, and archery.

The first two gold medals were contributed by the badminton discipline, through the men's team event and the Men's Doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando / Daniel Marthin.

The third Gold Medal came from Rahmat Erwin Abdullah in the men's 75kg weightlifting category. Rahmat also recorded an outstanding achievement after posting a total lift of 366 kilograms.

Indonesia then claimed their fourth gold medal via Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi in the women's speed sport climbing event.

Desak finished fastest in the final round with a time of 6.062 seconds, simultaneously breaking both the Asian Games record and the continental Asian record.

Indonesia's fifth and final gold medal was presented by Nurisa Dian Ashrifah from the women's individual compound archery event.

Nurisa defeated Philippine representative Amaya Amparo Cojuangco in the final with a score of 139-137. This medal marked Indonesia's fifth gold, meaning the 4 gold target set by the government was successfully exceeded.

With these results, Indonesia's five gold medals came from:

  • Badminton – Men's Team
  • Badminton – Men's Doubles, Leo Rolly Carnando / Daniel Marthin
  • Weightlifting – Men's 75kg, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah
  • Sport Climbing – Women's Speed, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi
  • Archery – Women's Individual Compound, Nurisa Dian Ashrifah

Four Gold Target Successfully Exceeded

This haul of five gold medals meant Indonesia successfully surpassed the target set ahead of the 2026 Asian Games.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports had set a target of four gold medals for Indonesia. This target was first met when Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi claimed the fourth gold medal on 30 September.

Nurisa Dian Ashrifah's gold was then recorded as Indonesia's fifth, officially confirming that the initial four gold target had been exceeded.

Final Medals Close Out Indonesia's Tally

On Saturday, 3 October 2026, Indonesia added three silver medals and one bronze medal to their tally.

The three silver medals came from the men's quadrant sepak takraw team, men's beach volleyball pair Bintang Akbar / Sofyan Rachman Efendi, and women's padel doubles pair Fitriani Sabatini / Fadona Kusumawati.

Meanwhile, the bronze medal was won by Beatrice Gumulya / Novela Putria in the women's padel doubles event.

These additional medals brought Indonesia's final tally to 5 gold, 11 silver, 23 bronze, for a total of 39 medals.

Total Medals Increased, But Standings Position Dropped

When compared to the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Indonesia saw a notable contrast in results.

At the previous edition, Indonesia finished the competition in 13th place with 7 gold, 11 silver, 18 bronze, for a total of 36 medals.

Meanwhile at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Games, Indonesia accumulated 39 total medals, three more than the prior edition.

However, gold medal count fell from 7 to 5. Silver medal count remained unchanged at 11, while bronze medals rose from 18 to 23.

As such, while Indonesia successfully increased their overall total medal count, they finished with two fewer gold medals compared to the Hangzhou Games. This outcome caused Indonesia's ranking to drop three positions, from 13th down to 16th place.

Indonesia Finishes Below Chinese Taipei

Competition around Indonesia's ranking position was very tight.

Chinese Taipei took 15th place with 5 gold, 17 silver, 33 bronze, for a total of 55 medals.

Indonesia placed 16th with 5 gold, 11 silver, 23 bronze, for a total of 39 medals.

As both contingents won an identical five gold medals, silver medal count was used as the tiebreaker: Chinese Taipei recorded 17 silver medals, while Indonesia only secured 11.

Directly below Indonesia, the Philippines finished 17th with 4 gold, 9 silver, and 16 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, two fellow ASEAN nations finished far above Indonesia: Thailand placed 7th with 18 gold medals, while Malaysia ranked 11th with 9 gold medals.

China Crowned Overall Champions

At the top of the standings, China was crowned overall champion of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

China collected a total of 341 medals, consisting of 169 gold, 89 silver, and 83 bronze medals.

Host nation Japan finished in second place with 269 total medals: 83 gold, 95 silver, and 91 bronze.

Meanwhile, South Korea took third place with 150 total medals, made up of 39 gold, 43 silver, and 68 bronze medals.

Final Notes For Indonesia

The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games delivered two contrasting outcomes for Indonesia.

On one hand, the four gold target was successfully exceeded with a final haul of five gold medals. Total overall medals also increased, rising from 36 at Hangzhou to 39 at Aichi-Nagoya.

However, in terms of tournament ranking, Indonesia recorded a drop. The Red and White squad fell from 13th place at the 2022 Hangzhou Games down to 16th place at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya edition.

In summary: Indonesia won more total medals overall, but secured fewer gold medals than at the previous Asian Games.

This achievement of five gold medals will serve as an important benchmark for the development of Indonesian National Sports ahead of upcoming international events, including the 2027 SEA Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
