Indonesia's contingent jersey for the 2026 Asian Games carries the Nusantara identity.

A total of 432 Indonesian athletes will carry far more than just medal ambitions when they compete at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan. Beneath the uniforms they wear lies the cultural identity of the Indonesian archipelago, wrapped in modern design.

The official uniform of Team Indonesia for the 2026 Asian Games integrates two cultural elements: Gorga, the traditional motif from Toba, North Sumatra, and Limar from South Sumatra. Both form an integral part of the design, fostering pride while grounding the athletes in their national identity.

Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI / NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari stated that the team's apparel is not merely standard sports equipment. These uniforms act as a medium to bring Indonesia's story to the global stage.

"Every time the athletes put on this apparel, they carry a piece of Indonesia's story with them. Out of our rich cultural diversity, we stand united as one identity: Team Indonesia," Okto stated in an official briefing held in Jakarta on Thursday.

Within the uniform design, Gorga features as the core element on competition attire. This traditional Toba cultural motif was selected as a symbol of strength and protection, two values intended to accompany the athletes throughout their matches.

Meanwhile, Limar represents honour and excellence. These two cultural elements from distinct regions across Indonesia have been merged to form the official visual identity of Team Indonesia for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

The modern design was developed by Ghea Panggabean through Ghea Fashion Studio. Sarinah served as the design curator, while Mills acts as the official apparel supplier for Team Indonesia.

This project holds special personal meaning for Ghea Panggabean. After 45 years working with and exploring textiles and cultural heritage across the Indonesian archipelago, this uniform design marks her first ever entry into the sportswear industry.

"Designing uniforms for these national sports ambassadors is an extraordinary honour. Gorga embodies strength and protection, while Limar stands for honour and excellence," Ghea commented.

It is hoped these uniforms will not only act as a visual identifier when athletes enter the competition arena. Beyond this, the apparel is intended to build confidence and national pride as the athletes compete to represent Indonesia.

Team Indonesia Chief de Mission Todotua Pasaribu shared the core message behind the uniform that will be worn by the Red and White national contingent.

"Through this jersey, we want our athletes to feel proud to compete with their heads held high, and raise the Red and White flag on the highest podiums of the 2026 Asian Games," Todotua stated.

With its 432-strong athlete delegation, Indonesia has set a target of four gold medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which will run from 19 September to 4 October.
