Ducati Lenovo Team rider Marc Marquez has once again applied massive pressure in the race for the 2026 MotoGP world championship title. Marquez won the Japanese MotoGP at Mobility Resort Motegi on Sunday, cutting his deficit to championship leader Jorge Martin down to just two points.
Marquez completed the 24-lap main race with a finishing time of 41 minutes 31.467 seconds. This victory added 25 championship points to his tally, on top of the 12 points he secured one day prior by winning the Sprint Race.
This means Marquez pulled off a perfect clean sweep of the Japanese MotoGP weekend, earning a total of 37 additional points. This performance forms strong momentum for his title push against the two Aprilia Racing riders, Martin and Marco Bezzecchi.

Following round 16 out of 22 total rounds in the 2026 season, Marquez has accumulated 331 points. Martin remains at the top of the Standings with 333 points, while Bezzecchi sits in third position with 284 points.
The main Motegi race began with Martin starting from pole position. Marquez lined up second on the starting grid, while Red Bull KTM's Pedro Acosta occupied third place.
The two front riders fought an extremely tight battle right from the opening laps. Martin attempted to defend his lead, but Marquez maintained unrelenting pressure before eventually crossing the finish line as race winner.
Behind the leading pair, Bezzecchi steadily advanced to lock in third place. The Aprilia rider finished 2.252 seconds behind Marquez, while Martin crossed the line in second position 1.363 seconds adrift of the winner.
The full MotoGP Japan podium was occupied by the three leading title contenders for this season. Marquez stood on the top podium step, followed by Martin then Bezzecchi.
Enea Bastianini of Red Bull KTM finished fourth, while Raul Fernandez riding for Trackhouse took fifth place. Ai Ogura finished sixth, followed by Pedro Acosta in seventh position.
Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo crossed the line in eighth place. Fermin Aldeguer finished ninth, while Luca Marini completed the top 10 finishers.
Two riders failed to finish the race. Alex Marquez was forced to retire on lap 18, while Diogo Moreira ended his race early after only completing eight laps.
This victory in Japan serves as a major turning point for Marquez. Having already claimed the Sprint Race win, he now carries huge forward momentum to continue chasing Martin across the final four remaining rounds.
The Japanese MotoGP marked the 16th round of the 2026 22-round MotoGP season. The championship will continue in Indonesia between 9-11 October for the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, hosted at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit.
With only two points separating them, the championship battle between Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin has entered an increasingly heated phase. Mandalika will be the next battleground for both riders as they fight for critical advantage heading towards the season conclusion.
