The future of LIV Golf is once again under the spotlight after Spanish golfer David Puig confirmed he will not continue his career with the tour. At the same time, Bryson DeChambeau is reported to be exploring opportunities to compete more frequently in European tournaments in 2027.
Puig's decision marks a major development for LIV Golf, which is currently preparing restructuring plans for the upcoming season. The 24-year-old golfer has opted to move his career to the DP World Tour in order to compete on a fuller competitive calendar.
Speaking to reporters while competing at the Spanish Open, Puig openly stated his decision not to join the revamped LIV Golf format.

"I don't see myself playing LIV Golf 2.0," Puig said.
He also expressed his desire to return to regular competition on the European circuit next season.
For Puig, his time spent with LIV Golf still made a positive contribution to the development of his professional career. However, he is now choosing a different path to increase his opportunities to compete across multiple tournaments.
Over more than four years competing on LIV Golf, Puig never claimed an individual title on the tour. Despite this, he secured a significant career milestone by winning the Australian PGA Championship in November 2025.
David Puig Follows In The Footsteps Of Jon Rahm And Sergio Garcia
Puig's decision adds to the growing list of Spanish golfers who have chosen to return to European competition after leaving LIV Golf.
Previously, Jon Rahm also announced he would not be part of the LIV Golf 2.0 project. Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia has been released from his LIV Golf contract, though he has not completely ruled out a potential return.
Puig previously competed for Fireballs GC, the LIV Golf team captained by Garcia. He will now take up full playing opportunities on the DP World Tour to further his career progression.
This string of player departures presents a major challenge for LIV Golf. The tour, built around a team-based format and backed by major investment, must now convince remaining players to commit as it overhauls its business structure.
Bryson DeChambeau Considers Increased European Tournament Appearances
Attention now turns to Bryson DeChambeau, one of the biggest remaining names tied to LIV Golf's future.
Reporting from The Telegraph, cited by Reuters, states that DeChambeau's team has reached out to DP World Tour officials to discuss potential tournaments he could enter in 2027.
These discussions do not mean DeChambeau has decided to leave LIV Golf entirely. He is also not yet reported to have applied for full DP World Tour membership.
The option of competing in additional European tournaments would allow DeChambeau to expand his competitive schedule. No final decision regarding his long term future with LIV Golf has been announced at this time.
The golfer from the United States is a two-time US Open champion and was one of the flagship players that launched LIV Golf. As such, any decision he makes will carry significant weight for the tour's 2027 season plans.
LIV Golf Races Against Time To Secure Its Future
LIV Golf has entered a critical period as it fights to keep the tour operational. The organisation is currently undergoing restructuring proceedings after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States.
Under the proposed restructuring plan, LIV Golf must secure player commitments in order to meet funding requirements from lender BC Partners Credit. The deadline for players to confirm their commitment is set for 25 October 2026.
Confirming which players will remain on the tour will be the make-or-break factor for the LIV Golf 2.0 project. Without sufficient player backing, the tour's financing and restructuring plans face collapse.
This context is why DeChambeau's next move is so highly anticipated. Should he opt to stay, LIV Golf retains one of its core star players. If he instead chooses to expand his commitments to other tours, the organisation will face an uphill battle to retain its credibility and appeal.
As it stands, Puig's move to the DP World Tour is now confirmed publicly, while DeChambeau's future remains uncertain. Developments between now and the 25 October deadline will ultimately define the direction LIV Golf takes heading into the 2027 season.
