Flight Operations in Saudi Arabia were disrupted after an attack struck King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, 10 October 2026. This incident caused airport operations to be temporarily halted, with numerous flights being diverted or cancelled.

Saudi Arabian civil aviation authorities reported at least 12 people were killed and over 300 others injured as a result of the attack. According to Reuters records, this incident is the deadliest attack to occur in Saudi Arabia in over a decade.

King Khalid Airport is one of the primary entry points for international tourists and travellers heading to the Saudi capital. The suspension of its operations has impacted passenger mobility, especially those with scheduled departures or transit arrangements through Riyadh.

Multiple Airlines Suspend Flight Services

Flight disruptions had actually already begun before this Saturday attack. A number of international airlines had previously announced cancellations or temporary suspension of services to Riyadh following rising security threats in the region.

Reuters reported that Lufthansa Group has suspended all flights to Riyadh until 16 October 2026. Meanwhile, IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air also cancelled multiple services during the prior period. Each Airline's schedule and operational policies may be updated as the situation develops.

Impacts from the attack are not only experienced by passengers departing from Riyadh. Diverted flights also carry risks of disrupting onward Travel arrangements, transit timetables, and final arrival times for all affected passengers.

Travellers Advised To Verify Flight Schedules

With the unstable ongoing security situation, prospective passengers are required to exercise extra caution before travelling through Saudi Arabia. Flight status may change at any time according to airport authority rulings and individual airline policies.

For travellers who have already purchased tickets, the most critical step is to confirm flight information via the official website or application of their airline before travelling to the airport. Passengers are also advised to contact their airline directly to inquire about rebooking options, route diversions, or refund terms should their flight be cancelled.

Travellers with transit flights through Riyadh should reconfirm their onward flight schedules, and contact their travel agent if tickets were purchased through a third party.

Security Situation Remains An Active Concern

This latest attack adds further pressure to Saudi Arabia's aviation sector amid escalating regional tensions. Prior to this incident, multiple airlines had already adjusted their operational schedules after threats emerged against aircraft transiting Saudi airspace.

As of information published 11 October 2026, prospective passengers should monitor official announcements from aviation authorities and airlines for the latest updates. Travellers are also advised to review official travel advisories from their respective national governments before finalising travel plans.
