Bayern Munich and Arsenal will face a major test on the third matchday of the 2026/2027 UEFA Champions League league phase. This fixture at the Allianz Arena pits together the two top-ranked sides in Opta supercomputer projections to lift this season's European title.

Arsenal sits top of the title projections with a 20.7% chance to claim the club's first ever Champions League trophy. Bayern Munich trails closely in second place, holding a 15.2% probability to secure their seventh European crown.

However, Opta's pre-match prediction for this specific fixture favours Bayern. Vincent Kompany's side holds a 46.4% win probability, while Arsenal are given a 29.3% chance of taking all three points. The likelihood of both sides sharing the points stands at 24.3%.

This match provides both clubs an opportunity to benchmark their strengths amid the tight competition of the league phase. Bayern enter the tie on the back of a dominant Bundesliga victory, while Arsenal are looking to preserve their perfect Champions League start.

Bayern Bounce Back Behind Luis Diaz Hat-Trick

Bayern Munich returned to winning ways in convincing fashion, dismantling RB Leipzig 6-1 in the Bundesliga last weekend. Luis Diaz was the star of the match with a hat-trick, with the hosts' dominance underlined by registering 17 shots on target.

This figure marks Bayern's highest single-match shots on target tally in a league fixture since they recorded 20 attempts against Borussia Mönchengladbach back in August 2022.

This emphatic win served as a response following a difficult run for Bayern after the international break. The side had twice fallen behind before drawing 2-2 against Augsburg in the Bundesliga, then were held to a 3-3 draw by Norwegian champions Viking on the second Champions League matchday.

The draw against Viking created an additional headache for Kompany. Michael Olise was shown a red card, leaving Bayern to play out the final 16 minutes with 10 men, before Viking capitalised on their numerical advantage to net the equaliser.

Olise will be suspended for the clash against Arsenal, serving a one-match ban. The French winger's absence represents a major loss for Die Roten's attacking line.

Since the start of last season, Olise has created 44 goalscoring chances in the Champions League - more than any other player in the competition.

He has also recorded 43 progressive passes through opposition defensive lines, matching the highest total in that metric. For successful dribbles, only Lamine Yamal has registered more than Olise's 54, with the Barcelona youngster recording 55 completed dribbles.

Arsenal will look to exploit this absence, though Bayern still have multiple options to fill the right wing position. Former Arsenal academy graduate Serge Gnabry or young prospect Lennart Karl are both in line to replace Olise.

Harry Kane Boasts Fine Scoring Record Against Arsenal

Harry Kane remains one of the biggest threats facing Arsenal. The English striker netted his 102nd Bundesliga goal in his 100th appearance for the club during the win over Leipzig.

Kane holds an impressive personal record against Arsenal. The former Tottenham Hotspur forward has scored 15 goals in 22 matches against The Gunners. Only against Leicester City (20 goals) and Everton (16 goals) has Kane scored more times in his career.

This fixture against Arsenal comes as one of Kane's final key matches before the Ballon d'Or winner is announced next week.

Should he claim the award, Kane will become the first English player to win football's most prestigious individual honour since Michael Owen back in 2001.

However, Kane will come up against the Premier League's best defensive unit. Arsenal remain within three points of Manchester City after securing a narrow 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Noni Madueke scored the winning goal with a deflected effort that took a touch off an opposing defender. Arsenal came under late pressure in the closing stages, but held firm to protect their lead.

This victory was Arsenal's 32nd 1-0 win in the Premier League since Mikel Arteta was appointed head coach in December 2019. This tally matches Everton's record for the most 1-0 victories by any club across that same period.

Arsenal Carry Strong Form Into Champions League Fixture

Arsenal are one of just nine sides that have won both of their opening two matches in this season's Champions League league phase. In their most recent fixture in the competition, they defeated Lille by a 3-0 scoreline.

Bukayo Saka was the match winner on that occasion. Coming on as a substitute, he contributed one goal and one assist, with his impact once again coming under focus ahead of Arsenal's trip to the Allianz Arena.

That said, Saka's away goalscoring record in the Champions League has been modest so far. Of his 14 total goals in the competition, only four have been scored at opposition grounds. Two of those away goals came against Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Only two players have ever scored away Champions League goals against Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and PSG: Didier Drogba and Erling Haaland.

Another key talking point is how Arsenal will approach a Bayern side that typically dominates possession.

Arsenal faced criticism for an overly cautious game plan during last season's Champions League Final against PSG, where they recorded just 24.7% possession - the lowest ever recorded in a final since match data collection began in the 2003/2004 season.

However, statistics from Arsenal's opening two matches this season show a far more aggressive approach. 73% of their high-intensity pressing actions in the Champions League have been executed inside the opposition half, accounting for 373 out of their total 508 pressures.

This percentage is the highest recorded by any competing club after the first two matchdays.

Arsenal also lead the competition for high turnovers with 25 recoveries in advanced areas, 9 of which have directly resulted in shots on goal.

This statistic highlights Arteta's side's ability to win possession high up the pitch and immediately transition into goalscoring opportunities.

The Gunners have also won their last 14 consecutive Champions League league phase matches.

Since returning to the competition in 2023, Arsenal have recorded 27 Champions League victories - the exact same total as Bayern.

Only PSG and Real Madrid have registered more total wins in that period, with 28 victories apiece.

Head-To-Head Record Favours Bayern

Despite Arsenal's strong recent form, the historical head-to-head record between the two sides still leans heavily in Bayern's favour. Arsenal have suffered 8 defeats from 15 meetings against the German giants, representing a 53% loss rate.

Of all opponents Arsenal have faced at least five times in major European competition, only Barcelona hold a higher win rate against them, having won 67% of their nine meetings.

Bayern are particularly dominant when hosting Arsenal. Of the seven Champions League meetings at their home ground, Bayern have lost just once, with five wins and one draw.

They have also won their last three consecutive home matches against Arsenal, including emphatic 5-1 victories in November 2015 and February 2017.

That said, Arsenal did defeat Bayern 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium last November. That result remains the only time Bayern have lost by more than one goal in their last 23 Champions League matches.

Jurriën Timber, Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli scored for Arsenal in that fixture, while Lennart Karl netted Bayern's consolation goal.

On that night, Bayern only managed 8 total shots, 14 touches inside the opposition penalty area and an expected goals (xG) value of 0.65. All three figures represent the worst match records Bayern have posted in any Champions League game under Kompany's management.

Bayern Munich vs Arsenal Match Prediction

Opta's supercomputer has ranked Bayern Munich as favourites to win this fixture at the Allianz Arena. Die Roten hold a 46.4% win probability, while Arsenal have a 29.3% chance of victory, with a 24.3% likelihood of the match finishing in a draw.

The Gunners travel with the momentum of two straight league phase wins and an improved aggressive pressing system. However, Bayern hold home advantage, high attacking output and a superior historical head-to-head record.

While Olise's suspension may blunt Bayern's creative output, the presence of Kane and Luis Diaz still poses a very serious threat to Arsenal's defence. This fixture will pit Bayern's clinical forward line against Arsenal's well organised defence and aggressive pressing game.
