Persija Jakarta and Arema FC enter the sixth week of the 2026/2027 Super League carrying a mission to bounce back and return to winning form, after picking up disappointing recent results. Both teams will face off at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi, on Wednesday 21 October 2026 at 19:00 WIB.
Persija is looking to restore momentum after a defeat against Persita Tangerang in the previous matchweek ended their four-game winning streak. This result served as a reminder for Macan Kemayoran that match domination does not always guarantee three points.
Persija Head Coach Shin Tae-yong used the short preparation window to fix multiple aspects of the team's performance. He confirmed that all players have completed physical recovery and tactical preparations ahead of the fixture against Arema.

Shin Tae-yong is not yet satisfied even though Persija Jakarta have won all three of their opening matches in the Super League.
"We have rested properly. We also carried out full preparations yesterday and today. So for tomorrow's match against Arema, I believe our preparations are complete," stated Shin Tae-yong on Persija's official page.
Shin evaluated Persija's latest defeat. He noted that the team's actual performance was not poor, as they successfully dominated the match. However, failure to convert scoring opportunities and weakness in defending against counter-attacks became the deciding factors.
"That last match was actually not bad, we played with dominance. We just lacked luck in scoring goals, while the opposing team executed their counter-attacks very well," he explained.
The South Korean Coach emphasized that his squad will perform better to secure a victory.
"Even though our play was already good, in this next match we must be able to create winning opportunities and raise our performance level. That is the focus for myself and all the players right now," he added.
Along with fixing their recent form, Persija also faces an unfavourable head-to-head record against Arema. Last season, Macan Kemayoran suffered a 0-2 home defeat against Singo Edan at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.
However, Shin refused to let last season's result burden his team. He views past records as a challenge for Persija to prove their current capabilities.
"Our last home Match Result against Arema was certainly unsatisfactory. But that is what records are for: they exist to be broken. Just like we managed to break negative records against Borneo and Persib Banjarmasin recently, we can break this one too," he concluded.
Arema FC Aiming To End Their Negative Run
On the opposing camp, Arema FC arrives with the exact same mission. The Malang-based side comes off a defeat, after previously recording three consecutive draws.
Arema Head Coach Marcos Santos confirmed that physical recovery and tactical evaluation became the main priorities while preparing for the match against Persija.
Fitness management and player mental readiness are receiving extra focus due to the short gap between fixtures.
"Our preparations have gone quite well. Our main focus is managing player fatigue and maintaining competitive mentality. We know our last match was not optimal, but I have full faith in the capability of all our players to bounce back in this Big Match tomorrow," stated Marcos Santos on Arema's official page.
Marcos is aware that Persija plays with aggressive high pressing and fast transition play. For this reason, Arema will need to maintain solid defensive organisation while ensuring every player follows the game plan with discipline.
"Persija is a strong team with very aggressive pressing and transition speed. We have prepared scenarios and a game plan to neutralise their pace. If the players can execute everything we have trained, we are optimistic to get a positive result," affirmed the Brazilian coach.
He also reminded his squad not to be distracted by past match results, and to stay fully focused on their current strategy and performance.
"Historical statistics have their place, but once you step onto the pitch everything resets to zero. This is a brand new match with its own unique challenges. What matters most is staying focused on this team's performance right now," he concluded.
