Champions League Result: Nico Paz Becomes the Star, Como Destroys Manchester United 4-1

Como 1907 once again took centre stage in the ongoing 2026/2027 Champions League after dismantling Manchester United with a dominant 4-1 scoreline at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, Como, on Wednesday evening WIB. Como star Nico Paz bagged two goals and provided one assist in the hosts' impressive victory.

This result delivered a heavy blow to Manchester United, who continue to struggle for consistent form. In contrast, Como showcased their sharp attacking line and ability to exploit the Red Devils' defensive weaknesses to secure three vital league phase points.

As reported on the official UEFA website, Paz put Como ahead just two minutes into the match. The Argentine attacking midfielder netted his second goal in the 57th minute, while his assist allowed Anastios Douvikas to extend the home side's lead.

Douvikas found the back of the net in the 49th minute, before Jacobo Ramon sealed Como's win with a 76th minute strike. Manchester United could only pull one goal back through Joshua Zirkzee during second half Injury time, specifically in the 90+1 minute.

Nico Paz Punishes Manchester United

Como wasted no time demonstrating their cutting edge. Just two minutes after kickoff, Paz received a pass from Lucas Da Cunha right on the edge of Manchester United's penalty box.

The Argentine player controlled the ball before curling a shot towards goal. Manchester United Goalkeeper Senne Lammens was unable to reach the effort. Como took a 1-0 lead.

This early goal boosted the hosts' confidence as they built up attacking plays. Manchester United attempted to respond, but multiple player absences left Michael Carrick's squad unable to match Como's tempo.

Carrick travelled to Como's home ground missing nine players through injury and suspension, including Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford. There was however a boost for Manchester United, as Matthijs de Ligt returned to the starting line-up after over eight months out of action.

Even so, De Ligt's return was not enough to shore up the Red Devils' backline. Como continued to create chances and exploit gaps in the visiting defence.

After the break, Como moved the ball with even greater freedom. The hosts doubled their lead in the 49th minute as Anastios Douvikas finished off a perfectly weighted pass from Paz.

Douvikas made a diagonal run that De Ligt failed to track, before converting the chance cleanly. Como went 2-0 up, leaving Manchester United in an increasingly difficult position.

Eight minutes later, Paz dispossessed Baleba on the left side of Manchester United's defence, drove into dangerous territory and fired another curled effort.

Once again Lammens could not keep out the young Como midfielder's strike. The home side stretched their advantage to 3-0 in the 57th minute.

Jacobo Ramon Completes The Rout, United Grab Consolation

Manchester United could not stem the tide of Como's attacks. In the 76th minute, Jacobo Ramon scored the fourth goal for the home side.

Ramon met Kaiki Bruno's cross with a header that Lammens could not stop. This goal made it 4-0, underlining Como's complete dominance in front of their home supporters.

Manchester United finally got their consolation goal in the 90+1 minute. Joshua Zirkzee converted a cross from Amad Diallo to cut the deficit to 1-4.

This goal did nothing to change the outcome of the match. Como closed out the game with a resounding victory, having been the sharper, more effective side for the full 90 minutes.

Contrasting Fortunes For Como And Manchester United

This win moves Como up to 10th position in the provisional 2026/2027 Champions League league phase Standings with a total of six points. This result gives the Italian club valuable momentum as they fight to qualify for the next stage of the competition.

By contrast, Manchester United face mounting pressure after once again failing to pick up a win.

This defeat in Como extends the Red Devils' winless run across all competitions to seven matches, since their opening Champions League 4-0 victory over Sabah FK on 11 September this season.

Manchester United currently sit 23rd in the provisional standings with three points from three matches. Alongside dropping points, conceding four goals gives Carrick a clear priority to fix his side's defensive frailties.
