Amri/Nita Advance to the 2026 Asian Games Semifinals, Indonesia Has Already Secured a Medal.

Indonesia's hopes of securing a Medal in the mixed doubles event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games have grown significantly. Amri Syahnawi / Nita Violina Marwah have confirmed their place in the semi-finals after battling through a tight match against a pair from South Korea.

Amri/Nita were forced to work hard before eventually defeating Jo Sung Hyun / Jeong Na Eun across three games. They recorded a 21-9, 12-21, 21-19 victory in Ichinomiya, Japan on Sunday.

This result guarantees that Indonesian Mixed Doubles will return home with at least a bronze medal. However, Amri and Nita retain the chance to upgrade their medal standing if they progress through the semi-final round.

"The Asian Games are held once every four years, so we want to contribute a medal for Indonesia, and especially for the mixed doubles team that has trusted and supported us all this way," Nita stated following the match in Ichinomiya, Japan on Sunday.

The journey to the semi-finals did not come easily. Amri/Nita started dominantly, taking the first game comfortably with a 21-9 scoreline. However, the South Korean pair hit back in the second game, levelling the tie after a 21-12 win.

The deciding game became even more fiercely contested. Jo/Jeong applied heavy pressure, leveraging their fast playing tempo and solid defensive structure.

Amri and Nita ultimately kept their composure during critical moments to close out the third game 21-19. An emotional celebration unfolded immediately after they confirmed the winning point.

Amri acknowledged that the South Korean pair were far from easy opposition. He noted that Jo and Jeong's speed and defensive strength made the entire match a high-pressure contest.

"The Korean pair has great speed, clean technique and very strong defence. Jeong also remained extremely calm on court today. This was never going to be easy, but thank God we managed to pull through," Amri commented.

This success carries extra weight for Amri, as this marks the first time the pair has guaranteed a medal contribution for the mixed doubles division at the 2026 Asian Games.

"It feels wonderful to deliver a medal for Indonesia through our mixed doubles category," he added.

An even sterner challenge awaits in the semi-finals. Amri/Nita are scheduled to compete on Monday (28/9) against Chinese duo Feng Yan Zhe / Huang Dongping.

This fixture also presents Amri and Nita with a chance for revenge. The two pairs previously met at the World Championships semi-final stage.

Amri is fully aware of the high calibre of their upcoming opponents. As such, establishing a strong start from the opening points will be a critical factor if they aim to produce another upset result.

"We are really looking forward to this match. We hope we can get a better outcome this time. We need to prepare properly for their playing patterns, and we cannot afford to fall behind early," Amri concluded.

With one medal already guaranteed, Amri and Nita are now targeting a spot in the tournament final. Should they overcome the Chinese pair, the duo will stand a chance of bringing home a Gold Medal from the 2026 Asian Games for Indonesia.
