Spain National Team continued their perfect run in the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League. La Roja secured a 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic on Group A3 Matchday 3, held at Carlos Tartiere Stadium, Oviedo on Sunday, 4 October 2026.

These three points cement Spain's position at the top of Group A3. From the three matches played so far, the squad managed by Luis de la Fuente has won every fixture, collecting a full 9 points.

Prior to this match, Spain had already defeated two tough opponents: England with a 3-2 scoreline, and Croatia by 4 goals to 1.

Against the Czech Republic, Spain's three goals were scored by Lamine Yamal, Rodri, and Mikel Merino, while Jiri Slama scored the sole goal for the Czech side.

Yamal Opens Spain's Lead

Spain came out aggressively right from the opening minute. Ball possession was one of La Roja's main weapons to put pressure on the Czech defense.

Lamine Yamal was the first player to create danger. The Barcelona winger attempted a long range shot from outside the penalty box, but his effort failed to hit the target.

Spain's pressure finally paid off in the 6th minute.

After linking up with Dani Olmo, Yamal found space to fire a curling shot. The ball flew into the back of the net, with Czech Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky unable to make the stop.

Spain took a 1-0 lead.

After scoring the opening goal, La Roja remained in full control of the match. The Czech Republic adopted a tight, disciplined defensive setup which made it difficult for Spain to create clear cut chances.

Kinsky was kept busy protecting his goal. In the 33rd minute, he pulled off an important save to deny Dani Olmo's shot.

However, just two minutes later, the Czech keeper was beaten once again.

Olmo was once again involved in Spain's attacking build up, before Rodri finished off the chance. The score became 2-0 in favour of La Roja.

This two goal lead held until the end of the first half.

Czech Republic Fight Back

As the second half kicked off, the Czech Republic stepped up their aggression in an attempt to close the deficit.

Lukas Ambros nearly threatened in the 48th minute with a direct free kick aimed at goal, but Spain goalkeeper David Raya managed to make the save.

Spain continued to dominate the flow of the match. In the first 15 minutes after the half time break, La Roja recorded 71% ball possession.

Nevertheless, the Czech Republic finally found a breakthrough in the 69th minute.

Jiri Slama received a pass from Adam Hlozek before unleashing a powerful strike that beat David Raya.

This goal cut Spain's lead to 2-1, putting the Czech Republic back with a chance to get back into the match.

The Czech side even found the net for a second time in the 79th minute through Ladislav Krejci, but the referee disallowed the goal after a foul was committed against Robin Le Normand during the build up.

Six minutes later, things got even worse for the Czech Republic.

Krejci was sent off with a straight red card in the 85th minute for a harsh challenge on Roberto Fernandez, leaving the Czech Republic down to 10 players for the remainder of the match.

Merino Seals Spain's Victory

Spain immediately took advantage of their numerical superiority.

Just four minutes after Krejci's dismissal, Mikel Merino scored La Roja's third goal. The Spanish midfielder fired a left footed shot which left Kinsky with no chance.

The score became 3-1.

Merino's goal effectively secured the win for Spain, as the Czech Republic were no longer able to mount any meaningful pressure.

No further goals were scored for the rest of the match. Spain confirmed their 3-1 victory, maintaining their perfect record in the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League.

With 9 points from 3 matches, La Roja sit comfortably at the top of Group A3. This result further underlines the consistency of Luis de la Fuente's squad, following their earlier wins against England and Croatia.
