MotoGP Mandalika has once again directed global attention towards West Nusa Tenggara. For the regional government however, this international racing event is not only about on-track competition - it also represents a critical opportunity to drive the tourism and Creative Economy sectors across Lombok all the way to Sumbawa.

Ahmad Nur Aulia, Head of West Nusa Tenggara Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, hopes that the MotoGP momentum will deliver far-reaching benefits for local business operators and tourist destinations across the region. Positive impacts are expected across accommodation, culinary services, transportation, MSMEs, and all forms of tourist attractions.

"We must utilise this momentum as well as possible. MotoGP acts as a public showcase for West Nusa Tenggara to introduce our tourist destinations, culture, local cuisine, and creative economy products to both Domestic Visitors and international tourists," he stated during an interview in Mataram on Tuesday.

According to Aulia, MotoGP's arrival presents a strategic opportunity to introduce West Nusa Tenggara to visitors travelling from all regions and countries. Guests are not only guided to watch the race, but also to enjoy full tourism experiences during their stay in Lombok and Sumbawa.

"We want every rider, crew member, and guest that comes here to experience more than just the MotoGP racing atmosphere. We want them to take home genuine impressions of the culture and warm hospitality of Lombok and Sumbawa communities. This forms a core part of our Tourism Promotion strategy," Aulia explained.

These initiatives commenced immediately upon the riders' arrival at Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport (Bizam) in Central Lombok on Monday 5 October. Their arrival was welcomed with distinctive West Nusa Tenggara cultural displays as part of the strategy to showcase the region's identity.

"This welcome ceremony is part of our efforts to introduce the cultural richness and hospitality of West Nusa Tenggara people to MotoGP riders and crew who have travelled here from countries across the globe," he added.

Guests immediately felt the authentic Sasak cultural atmosphere through the melodic tones of Genggong traditional mouth harp. The welcome procession continued with a Gendang Beleq performance, a traditional Lombok art form defined by its energetic, vibrant drum arrangements.

Groups of local residents dressed in full traditional Lombok and Sumbawa attire also joined to welcome the arriving riders. Their presence did not only liven the atmosphere, it also demonstrated West Nusa Tenggara's cultural diversity to the international guests.

Riders confirmed to have arrived in Lombok include Alex Rins, Enea Bastianini, Francesco Bagnaia, Jack Miller, Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, Maverick Vinales, Raul Fernandez, and Toprak Razgatlioglu.

For the regional government, this occasion acts as a gateway to introduce West Nusa Tenggara on a deeper level. While the MotoGP race serves as the primary draw for visitors, the surrounding culture, cuisine and tourist sites are designed to extend traveller length of stay.

"West Nusa Tenggara does not only host a world-class racing circuit. We also hold unique Cultural Heritage and traditions that stand as distinct attractions. The welcome with Genggong, Gendang Beleq, and residents in traditional dress is an authentic expression of our regional identity and the hospitality we offer guests from all nations," he stated.

MotoGP Mandalika carries broad significance for West Nusa Tenggara's tourism industry. The arrival of riders and support crews opens economic opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transport providers, MSMEs, creative workers, and Tourist Destination operators.

This international racing event is not intended to remain just a weekend spectator spectacle. The influx of visitors is treated as momentum to showcase the wide range of Travel Experiences available in West Nusa Tenggara, from local cultural activities to every tourist destination across Lombok and Sumbawa.

With this approach, Mandalika is not only a global racing arena - it has become a full tourism showcase for West Nusa Tenggara. The more visitors discover the other sides of Lombok and Sumbawa, the greater the chance that MotoGP will deliver long-lasting economic benefits long after the race has concluded.
