Ducati Lenovo rider Marc Marquez finally claimed victory at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit. He took the win in the 2026 Indonesian MotoGP sprint race on Saturday, after coming through an intense battle against Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura.
This is Marquez's first ever victory at the circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The result was earned in a wildly unpredictable race, featuring early lap incidents and a constantly shifting fight for the lead right up until the chequered flag.
SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider Raul Fernandez started the sprint race from pole position, immediately pushing hard to defend his advantage. However this aggressive opening approach would quickly fall apart.

Moments after the race start, the Spanish rider lost control of his bike and ran off circuit, forcing him out of the race entirely.
Following Fernandez's retirement, Jorge Martin moved into the lead. The Aprilia Racing rider, nicknamed the Martinator, worked to build a gap over Marquez, who remained right on his tail in second position.
With 10 laps remaining, Martin still held a 0.784 second advantage over Marquez. This buffer gave Martin breathing room to defend the lead, though pressure from the Ducati rider never eased at any point.
Marquez closed the gap lap by lap. He maintained a consistent race rhythm while scouting for an opening to attack, as Martin fought to hold on as the battle grew tighter.
The decisive moment arrived with 5 laps left on the clock. Marquez executed a bold outside overtake to pass Martin and take first position. This manoeuvre proved to be the turning point that completely shifted the momentum of the sprint.
After losing the lead, Martin struggled to maintain his pace. Ai Ogura and Fabio Di Giannantonio both capitalised on this drop in performance to overtake him, dropping Martin all the way down to fourth place.
Marquez on the other hand grew more comfortable with every lap out front. The Spanish rider set consistently fast lap times, holding his advantage all the way across the finish line to secure his Mandalika sprint victory.
Ai Ogura crossed the line in second place, with Fabio Di Giannantonio rounding out the final podium spot. Martin was forced to settle for fourth after leading most of the race, while Alex Marquez completed the top five.
For Marquez, this win marks a major breakthrough at Mandalika. Not only did he successfully absorb and overcome Martin's early race pressure, he also demonstrated his signature ability to read race momentum and perfectly time overtaking manoeuvres in the short sprint format.
The 2026 Indonesian MotoGP sprint race provided the stage for Marquez to end his winless streak at Mandalika Circuit. All attention now turns to the full Grand Prix main race, where competition is expected to be even fiercer.
