Indonesia's two representatives, Alwi Farhan and Putri Kusuma Wardani, have been eliminated in the Quarter Finals of the 2026 Denmark Open. Competing at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense, both players were outclassed by their opponents in straight two-game matches.

Alwi was knocked out after losing to home favourite Anders Antonsen with scores of 17-21, 16-21. Meanwhile, Putri Kusuma Wardani was unable to avenge her prior defeat against Wang Zhi Yi, falling by the identical 17-21, 16-21 scoreline.

This result brings an end to Alwi and Putri's campaign at this BWF Super 750 level tournament. For Putri, this loss against Wang will serve as evaluation material ahead of the upcoming French Open next week.

Alwi Farhan Struggles To Contain Anders Antonsen

Alwi Farhan attempted to put up resistance against Anders Antonsen, but the Indonesian Men's Singles player was unable to match his opponent's game rhythm right from the start of the first game.

Alwi trailed 5-9 before Antonsen extended his lead to 11-6 at the mid-game interval. A clean smash from Antonsen secured the Danish representative a five-point advantage heading into the break.

After the interval, Alwi began finding openings to close the gap. He managed to pull the score back to 9-13, then later 11-14.

Alwi's momentum continued as he claimed another two consecutive points, cutting the deficit to just 13-14. However, Antonsen halted this comeback run, pulling away once again to open up a 17-13 lead.

Antonsen remained solid as the game entered its closing stages. Holding a 20-13 advantage, he only required one final point to wrap up the first game.

Alwi refused to give up, pulling the score back to 17-20. Nevertheless, Antonsen converted his match point to take the first game 21-17.

The contest continued into the second game. Alwi once again found himself under early pressure, falling behind 2-6. He responded with three straight points to bring the score to 5-7.

Alwi kept pushing to close the gap, but Antonsen held on to his lead. At the mid-game interval, the Indonesian player was trailing 9-11.

Approaching the middle of the second game, Antonsen stretched his lead to 15-12. Despite Alwi's efforts to turn the tide, Antonsen closed out the second game 21-16 to confirm his place in the semi-finals.

In the women's singles category, Putri Kusuma Wardani also saw her tournament run end at the Quarter Final stage. She was once again unable to get the better of Wang Zhi Yi, falling 17-21, 16-21.

This marks Putri's second defeat to Wang, following their previous meeting at the 2026 Asian Games. Putri admitted her disappointment at failing to close out the first game, despite having held the lead at one point.

According to Putri, Wang stepped up the pace of the match, making her attacks much harder to anticipate.

"Wang Zhi Yi played at a faster tempo, even if her overall game pattern didn't change. That made her attacks much more difficult for me to handle," Putri stated in an official PBSI release.

Despite being unable to progress further at the Denmark Open, Putri has refused to dwell on this disappointment. She has already shifted her focus to the French Open, the next tournament on her competitive calendar.

"Next week we head to the French Open, it's a new venue that none of us have competed at before, so adaptation will be different again. We will have to adjust quickly to whatever the conditions are there," she said.

Putri is aiming to improve her results, while also building more confidence in her own ability when facing future opponents.

"I want to get better results. I also need to be more certain and have full confidence in my own abilities in every match I play," she concluded.

For Putri, the French Open presents an opportunity to bounce back following her exit in Odense. Meanwhile, the elimination of both Alwi and Putri means Indonesia no longer has any representatives remaining in the 2026 Denmark Open ahead of the semi-final round.
