Indonesian representatives got off to a difficult start at the 2026 Denmark Open. Two pairs exited the tournament in the first round, while men's doubles duo Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin withdrew from the competition after Daniel sustained an Injury.

Women's Doubles pair Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari were eliminated after falling to United States opponents Lauren Lam/Allison Quynh with a scoreline of 21-9, 20-22, 14-21 at SJF Arena, Odense, Denmark.

This defeat was deeply disappointing for the Indonesian pairing. Ana and Meilysa comfortably won the opening game, but failed to hold their advantage once the American pair raised their intensity and seized control of the match.

Meilysa confirmed that the opposition's consistency and attacking power posed a major barrier for her side.

"They remained focused and stuck strictly to their game plan. They also have very strong hitting power. That made things extremely difficult for us," Meilysa stated in an official PBSI release.

She noted that rushed on-court decision making was easily read by their opponents. On multiple occasions when clear attacking openings appeared, the Indonesian pair failed to capitalise and squandered crucial momentum.

Ana added that adapting to the shuttlecock speed also impacted the match flow. The fast travelling shuttle forced both pairs to adjust to rapid rallies and continuous attacking exchanges.

"With the shuttle moving this quickly, you are forced into constant attacking battles. During those exchanges there were moments we rushed our shots, and that worked entirely in our opponents' favour," Ana explained.

The 8th seeded pair admitted they could not maintain a stable game plan throughout the match. Sudden shifts in match rhythm left them unable to protect their early lead.

"We couldn't execute our plan consistently. Sometimes we would find good rhythm, only for it to suddenly collapse completely. This is an issue we need to fix immediately," Ana added.

Devin/Faathir Unable To Withstand Chinese Pair Pressure

Unfavourable results also hit men's doubles pair Devin Artha Wahyudi/Ali Faathir Rayhan. They exited in the first round following a straight games defeat to Chinese duo Hu Ke Yuan/Lin Xiang Yi, losing 14-21, 20-22.

Playing at SJF Bank Arena Odense, Devin/Faathir could not break free from the constant pressure applied by their opponents. They mounted a far tighter resistance in the second game, but failed to force a deciding third set.

Devin assessed that the Chinese pair dominated play from the very first point. Relentless attacking prevented the Indonesians from establishing their own game pattern and taking control of proceedings.

"We were under pressure for the entire match. We kept getting caught out by attacks, and we consistently lost net exchanges. We could not take any control of the game at all," Devin stated, as quoted by PBSI.

Devin also criticised tactical choices during the second game. Just as they had begun matching their opponents' level, the pair surrendered initiative and reverted to passive defensive play.

"Once we had finally got into an even tactical battle in the second game, we stopped pushing forward at the net. We went back to lifting the shuttle and playing defence," Devin explained.

Meanwhile Faathir admitted he continued to rush shots and commit unforced errors that benefitted the opposition. He stated that on-court composure and trust in both his own and his partner's abilities are the priority areas for improvement.

"We need to work on staying calm on court, and have full belief in what we can achieve as a pair," Faathir said.

Leo/Daniel Withdraw To Focus On Injury Recovery

Compounding the poor opening results, Indonesia also lost the services of Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin.

The men's doubles pair have officially pulled out of the 2026 Denmark Open after Daniel developed elbow pain during a training session.

Indonesian Men's Doubles Head Coach Antonius Budi Ariantho confirmed Daniel was not medically fit to compete.

Team physiotherapists administered full initial treatment, however significant pain remained when Daniel tested the injury during practice on Tuesday morning.

"Daniel reported his elbow was hurting after training in the Main Hall last night. Our physio team provided all available treatment, but when he tried hitting shuttles this morning the pain level was still too high," Antonius Budi Ariantho stated via official PBSI release.

The withdrawal was made to allow Daniel to complete full rehabilitation, and avoid the risk of worsening the injury into a long term issue.

Leo/Daniel are targeting a return at full fitness for the 2026 French Open, scheduled to run 20-25 October.

"That is why I made the call to pull Leo/Daniel from Denmark Open, so they can focus entirely on recovery. Hopefully this is not a serious injury and they will be ready to compete at the French Open next week," said Anton, as he is affectionately known.

Leo/Daniel's withdrawal is a major blow for Indonesia's campaign at this tournament. The 2026 Asian Games gold medallists will now focus fully on rehabilitation ahead of upcoming competitions.
