Persib Bandung successfully secured three points after beating Persik Kediri by a narrow 1-0 scoreline in the fifth matchweek of the 2026/2027 Super League. This match, held at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung Regency on Sunday 18 October 2026, was decided by Julio Cesar's headed goal in the 78th minute.

Remarkably, the Brazilian defender immediately put his name on the scoresheet with his very first touch after coming on as a substitute. This goal also sealed victory for Maung Bandung in front of their home supporters.

With this additional three points, Persib move closer to the leading pack in the league table. The side nicknamed the Blue Prince now sit in 5th position with 10 points from five matches, recording three wins, one draw and one defeat.

Lineups & First Half Action

Persib head coach Igor Tolic named Fitrah Maulana as his starting goalkeeper. At the back, he fielded Eliano Reijnders, Sandy Walsh, Danijel Loncar and Patricio Matricardi.

Meanwhile Luciano Guaycochea, Adam Alis and Marc Klok were tasked with controlling play in midfield. Up front, Tolic selected Luka Menalo, Mariano Peralta and Uilliam Barros Pereira to lead the attack.

Both sides played out a tightly contested first half. While both teams pushed for an opening goal, neither Persib nor Persik were able to convert any chances created before the half time break.

Persib and Persik Trade Threats

The tempo of the match increased after the restart. Persib immediately applied pressure just two minutes into the second half through Luka Menalo who fired off an effort, only to be denied by Persik goalkeeper Husna Al Malik.

The away side then created a dangerous chance in the 51st minute. Park Jun-heong latched onto a loose ball just outside the penalty area, but his shot went wide of the target.

Park tried his luck once again with another long range effort, this time striking the woodwork as Persik missed a golden opportunity to take the lead.

Seeing his side struggle to break down the opposition defence, Tolic made a triple substitution in the 57th minute, bringing on Thom Haye, Balsa Sekulic and Berguinho in place of Mariano Peralta, Luciano Guaycochea and Luka Menalo.

This tactical change immediately created opportunities for Persib. In the 63rd minute, Sekulic met Berguinho's cross with a header, only to see his effort hit the crossbar and leave the score unchanged.

Julio Cesar Breaks The Deadlock In The 78th Minute

After a series of missed chances, Persib finally made the breakthrough in the 78th minute. Tolic brought on Julio Cesar to replace Danijel Loncar, and this decision would prove to decide the match result.

From a corner kick, Julio Cesar rose to meet the delivery with a powerful header into the Persik goal. The goal came off the substitute's very first touch of the game, putting Persib 1-0 ahead.

Taking the lead made the remainder of the match far more open. Persik pushed hard for an equaliser, while Persib looked to exploit space to extend their advantage.

In the 86th minute, Berguinho played a through ball to Sekulic inside the penalty box, before the latter went down under contact from an opposition player. Referee Muhammad Iqballuddin reviewed the incident via VAR to check for a possible penalty.

Following the review, the referee ruled against awarding Persib a penalty.

Two minutes later, Dedi Kusnandar came on to replace Adam Alis. Persib continued to look for a second goal, including another chance for Julio Cesar, but his effort drifted wide of the target.

Fitrah Maulana Proves Crucial In Closing Stages

Persik ramped up the pressure as the match entered its final minutes. Amid the away side's onslaught, Fitrah Maulana produced a vital save in the 90th minute to keep Persib's lead intact.

Shortly before this, Persib thought they had scored a second through Berguinho, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

The referee added eight minutes of stoppage time. Persik continued to search for an equaliser through open play and set pieces, while the Persib players dug deep to hold onto their narrow lead.

Balsa Sekulic also dropped back to help defend during this tense final period, receiving a yellow card for his efforts.

When the final whistle blew, Persib had successfully held on for the 1-0 victory over Persik Kediri. Fitrah Maulana claimed the final corner kick of the match to seal the win for Maung Bandung.

This result provides important momentum for Persib as they continue their push at the top of the 2026/2027 Super League. Julio Cesar's instant impact off the bench and Fitrah Maulana's solid performance between the posts were the two key factors that allowed the Blue Prince to secure all three points.
