Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season on Wednesday, falling 2-4 to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on the third matchday of the Champions League at the Parc des Princes Stadium in Paris. Despite levelling the score on two separate occasions, the Blaugrana could not withstand the hosts' late pressure in the closing stages of the match.

PSG executed an efficient game plan to claim all three points in this open end-to-end encounter. Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernandez, Vitinha, and Fabian Ruiz all found the back of the net for the home side, while Barcelona could only respond with goals from Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal.

With this victory, Luis Enrique's squad solidified their position at the top of the Champions League Standings on 9 points. Meanwhile, Barcelona drop down to 5th place having collected 6 points so far this group stage.

Barcelona arrived in Paris carrying impressive early season form into this fixture. However, against this PSG side on home soil, dominating possession alone was not enough to avoid defeat, let alone pick up a positive result.

Désiré Doué Opens The Scoring For PSG

PSG threatened right from kickoff. In the 2nd minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia nearly put the hosts ahead after latching onto a pass from Fabian Ruiz, only to see his strike cannon off the post past Goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 38th minute. Désiré Doué struck a well-placed effort from outside the penalty area that beat Garcia, sending PSG into the half time break with a 1-0 lead.

As the second half got underway, Barcelona pushed forward looking to break down the PSG backline and regain control of the fixture.

In the 55th minute, Xavi Espart made a driving run into the box before finishing off a cutback from Fermin Lopez to level the scores at 1-1, breathing new life into Barcelona's hopes of leaving Paris with a result.

But PSG refused to let the equaliser stand for long.

Barcelona Level Twice, But PSG Pull Away Late

PSG retook the lead in the 72nd minute. From Désiré Doué's corner delivery, Lucas Hernandez rose highest to head home and restore the home side's advantage at 2-1.

Barcelona showed their fighting spirit once again seven minutes later. Lamine Yamal pounced on a lapse in concentration from the PSG defence, dribbled into the penalty area and fired home from a tight angle to make it 2-2 in the 79th minute.

Yamal's goal briefly raised hopes that Barcelona could steal a point, but PSG hit back immediately.

Just two minutes after Barcelona's equaliser, Vitinha restored PSG's lead. The Portuguese midfielder capitalised on a poor clearance from the Barcelona defence, firing a low shot from outside the box into the bottom left corner in the 81st minute.

This goal proved to be the turning point in the final stretch of the match. Barcelona were forced to commit men forward to chase the game, which only left them exposed as PSG added a fourth.

In the 86th minute, Fabian Ruiz converted Achraf Hakimi's cross at the far post to wrap up a 4-2 victory for PSG, and end any remaining hopes Barcelona had of salvaging anything from the match.
