Real Madrid opened their Champions League campaign with a victory over Inter Milan. Playing at the Santiago Bernabeu in the early hours of Wednesday 9 September WIB, Los Blancos secured a 2-1 win after capitalising on two fatal defensive errors from the visiting side.
Kylian Mbappé was one of the goalscorers for Madrid's winning result. The French forward put Los Blancos ahead in the 14th minute, before another mistake from Inter's goalkeeper handed the home side a further advantage nine minutes later.
Inter attempted to break free from Madrid's pressure. However, the relentless pressing applied by Jose Mourinho's squad left the Nerazzurri backline unable to establish their intended style of play.

Madrid did not take long to convert their pressure into a goal. In the 14th minute, Inter lost possession just outside their own penalty box after failing to cope with Madrid's press. The ball fell to the feet of Brahim Díaz.

Mbappé showed calm composure with a clinical finish. His shot could not be stopped by Josep Martínez.
Madrid took a 1-0 lead, and match momentum swung firmly in the home side's favour.

Inter had not yet managed to settle into their match rhythm, and were already forced to play catch up.
Second Error Extends Madrid's Lead
Nine minutes after Mbappé's goal, Inter made another defensive blunder.
This time Josep Martínez was at the centre of the mistake. The Inter goalkeeper attempted to build up play using short passes from the backline.
His attempt to play around Valverde ended in disaster. Valverde intercepted the ball and fired it directly into the goal.
Madrid claimed their second goal without needing to construct any lengthy attacking sequence. Inter fell 0-2 behind, left in a difficult position before the first half concluded.

Carlos Augusto met the ball with a powerful strike that found the back of Madrid's goal. Inter cut the deficit to 1-2.
The goal shifted the entire atmosphere of the match. Inter suddenly had realistic hope of taking a point away from the Bernabeu.
After Carlos Augusto's goal, the Nerazzurri continued pushing forward in search of an equaliser. Madrid were forced to work far harder to protect their narrow lead.
