Diogo Costa Holds Off City's Onslaught
Manchester City took the initiative immediately from kick-off. Haaland produced the first threatening attempt with a headed effort, which was successfully stopped by Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
Haaland received another opportunity shortly after, firing a close-range header from Antoine Semenyo's cross that drifted just off target.
City's pressure did not relent. Phil Foden tried his luck with an effort from outside the penalty area, only for Diogo Costa to produce another solid save.
Costa went on to deny consecutive chances created for both Haaland and Rayan Cherki.
The Porto goalkeeper was the sole reason the home side managed to keep their goal untouched through this period.
City continued to bombard Porto's defence right up until the end of the first half, but none of their created chances managed to alter the scoreboard.
Both sides headed into the half-time break with the score locked at 0-0.
Haaland Breaks The Deadlock
Manchester City did not take long to find the net after the second half got underway.
In the 47th minute, Enzo Fernandez played a delivery that Haaland finished cleanly to put City 1-0 ahead.
This goal from the Norwegian forward was just reward for the relentless work rate City had shown since the first half.
Porto attempted to mount a response. Alan Varela found space to unleash a long-range strike, but his effort flew wide of Manchester City's goal.
The home side soon found themselves under pressure once again. City controlled possession and created several additional chances, though they were unable to double their advantage at this stage.
Porto still retained opportunities to pull level, but City continued to hold full command of the match flow.
Haaland Seals Victory In The 90+1st Minute
As the match entered stoppage time, Haaland once again emerged as the difference maker.
In the 90+1st minute, Haaland scored his second goal of the night by converting Rayan Ait-Nouri's pass. The score became 2-0, putting the result safely out of Porto's reach.
Manchester City maintained their dominance for the remaining match time. Porto failed to produce any meaningful attacking response before the final whistle blew.
