Aldila/Erin to Face United States Pair in the 2026 US Open Quarter-Finals

Indonesian-New Zealand tennis pair Aldila Sutjiadi / Erin Routliffe have advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 US Open. The campaign for the ninth-seeded duo is far from over, with their next challenge set to come against American pairing Ashlyn Krueger / Robin Montgomery.

Aldila and Erin will face Krueger and Montgomery in the 2026 US Open quarter-final round, hosted in New York, United States, on Wednesday 9 September, morning WIB.

This match presents an opportunity for the pair to continue their surprise run at the final Grand Slam tournament of the calendar year. For Aldila personally, reaching the quarter-final stage holds huge significance, as this marks the best career achievement she has ever recorded at any Grand Slam event.

Aldila and Erin booked their quarter-final spot after a gruelling three-set battle against Hungarian-Ukrainian duo Anna Bondar / Anhelina Kalinina. They secured a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory in the Round of 16 fixture held on Tuesday WIB.

"I really am extremely happy to make it through to the quarter-finals, this is the best result I have ever achieved at a Grand Slam. Of course this is the fruit of all the hard work I put in this year, also working together with my new coach Christopher Rungkat," Aldila stated to Antara News Agency.

Lost Momentum Mid-Match

Aldila and Erin opened the fixture with aggressive tennis. They applied consistent pressure from the very first games, converting break opportunities to wrap up the opening set cleanly at 6-2.

The dynamic shifted entirely in the second set. Bondar and Kalinina raised their playing intensity, leaving Aldila and Erin struggling to retain control of the match.

The contest remained tightly contested until the score was locked at 4-4. Shortly after, the Hungarian-Ukrainian pair broke Aldila and Erin's serve, before closing out the second set with a 6-4 win.

"We had quite a comfortable run in the first set. But in the second set, our opponents stepped up their level. We struggled through that set and made a lot of unforced errors," Aldila noted.

The deciding final set became the stage for Aldila and Erin's comeback. They returned to their aggressive gameplan, immediately building a 4-0 lead after securing two consecutive service breaks against their opposition.

Bondar and Kalinina managed to narrow the gap to 2-4, however Aldila and Erin refused to let momentum slip. They successfully closed out the following two games, sealing the 6-2 final set win and their ticket to the quarter-finals.

"Thankfully we were able to refocus and stay calmer for the third set, we kept playing aggressive tennis which let us take an early lead and hold that advantage all the way through the set," Aldila added.

Next Test Against Home Nation Opposition

In the upcoming quarter-final, Aldila and Erin will take on Krueger and Montgomery, who also advanced with a convincing performance in their own Round of 16 match.

The American duo progressed after defeating German-Turkish pairing Tatjana Maria / Zeynep Sonmez in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

This fixture will present a different kind of test for Aldila and Erin. Following the energy-draining three-set battle in the previous round, they will need to rediscover consistent form to take on the home crowd favourites.

Match statistics from the clash against Bondar and Kalinina highlighted Aldila and Erin's efficiency at converting opportunities. Across the 1 hour 57 minute encounter, the pair won a total of 92 points compared to just 77 for their opponents.

Aldila and Erin also successfully converted 4 out of 6 created break points. By comparison, Bondar and Kalinina only managed to convert 1 of the 3 break point opportunities they generated throughout the match.

Right now, both Aldila and Erin have their full focus locked on this single upcoming fixture. A victory against Krueger and Montgomery would send them through to the 2026 US Open semi-finals, opening the door for an even greater historic run on the Grand Slam stage.

Aldila acknowledged there is still clear room to refine her game ahead of facing the American pairing.

"I'm really happy all this hard work has finally paid off. Of course, there is still lots of room to improve my game. I will take things match by match. I just hope I can perform even better in the quarter-final than I did in the previous rounds," she concluded.
