Dimitrios Kourbelis' Goal Leads Greece to Make History by Defeating Germany

Greece pulled off a massive upset in the UEFA Nations League after defeating Germany 1-0 in their Group A2 fixture at the WWK Arena on Monday.

This result marks historic territory for Greece. This is the very first time the nation has ever secured a victory against Germany across all prior official meetings between the two countries.

Dimitrios Kourbelis emerged as Greece's hero, netting the only goal of the match in the second half. Meanwhile, Germany, managed by Jurgen Klopp, were forced to accept defeat despite holding clear dominance throughout the entire match.

With this additional three points, Greece remain at the top of Group A2 with a total of 6 points. On the other hand, Germany are still winless after two matches and now sit in third place, as officially reported by UEFA.

Germany attempted to take control of the game right from kickoff. Joshua Kimmich, Bambase Conte, Karim Adeyemi and Younes Ebnoutalib were among the most active players building attacking moves for the home side.

Despite being placed under constant pressure, Greece were the first to create a proper goalscoring chance. Konstantinos Karetsas threatened the German defence in the 6th minute, as the away side looked to exploit gaps opening up in the opposition's structure.

Germany then received a golden opportunity through Adeyemi in the 27th minute. Built from a short corner routine, the Barcelona player managed to get past Kostas Tsimikas before unleashing a powerful strike from outside the penalty area.

Adeyemi's effort left Greece Goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis in serious trouble, but the shot stopper was able to react just in time to parry the ball and keep Greece's goal intact.

Adeyemi emerged as a threat again moments later, this time forcing Tzolakis into an even sharper save to deny the German forward.

Germany also suffered a major scare from an error by Alexander Nubel. The German goalkeeper produced a poor clearance, though Greece failed to convert this mistake into a dangerous attacking opportunity.

As the second half got underway, Germany increased their pressure even further. Kimmich very nearly put the hosts ahead, only for Tzolakis to pull off another outstanding reflex stop between the posts.

All of Germany's dominance would ultimately fail to produce a goal. Instead, it was Greece who struck at the critical moment, breaking the deadlock in the 74th minute.

The Greece attack began with a cross from Christos Tzolis delivered into the penalty box. Germany's defensive line failed to properly clear the incoming ball.

Perfectly positioned, Kourbelis met the loose ball with a driven shot. The effort took a deflection off a German defender before rolling past Nubel into the back of the net.

Falling 0-1 behind prompted Germany to immediately ramp up their attacking intensity, as they pushed desperately for an equaliser before the final whistle.

The clearest chance for the hosts arrived right at the end of normal time. Florian Wirtz found space to fire a powerful shot, but the Liverpool midfielder's effort drifted just inches over the crossbar.

Germany were unable to find a leveller before full time. Greece held on to their 1-0 lead, sealing their Historic Victory over Germany.
