China has introduced greater entry conveniences for Foreign Tourists through its regional visa-free entry policies. Indonesia is one of the ASEAN countries eligible for this facility. Indonesian Tourists may visit multiple destinations across China without applying for a visa for eligible trip types.

This policy is part of China's efforts to boost international visitor arrivals. Positive results have already been observed during the recent National Holiday period. According to reports from Chinese media outlet CGTN, out of 682,000 foreign national entry arrivals recorded over the National Holiday week, 505,000 travellers entered using the Visa-Free scheme.

These relaxed entry rules have made travel to China far more accessible. Three regions in China offer this regional Visa-Free scheme: Hainan Province, Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province, and Guilin in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

While all three locations offer simplified entry, each region operates under different regulations. Travellers are advised to confirm permitted stay duration, valid entry points, and travel restrictions before finalising their Holiday Plans.

1. Hainan: Visa-Free Stay Up To 30 Days

Hainan is an ideal option for Indonesian Tourists seeking a visa-free short holiday. This southern Chinese island provides a maximum 30-day visa-free stay for citizens of seven ASEAN nations.

Alongside Indonesia, the other six eligible countries are Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

As outlined in the National Immigration Administration of China's official document Regional Visa-Free Entry Policies for Foreign Nationals, citizens from 61 countries may enter Hainan and stay for up to 30 days without a visa for approved travel purposes.

Eligible travel purposes include Tourism, Business trips, personal visits, medical treatment, conferences and exhibitions, and sports competitions. This visa exemption does not apply for individuals travelling to Hainan for work or study.

This 30-day maximum stay offers travellers far greater flexibility for longer itineraries compared to the visa-free schemes in the other two regions. Even so, all visitors must still confirm their travel purpose complies with official regulations.

2. Xishuangbanna: Explore Yunnan For Up To 6 Days

Xishuangbanna, an autonomous prefecture located in Yunnan Province, operates a dedicated visa-free policy for tourist groups from all ASEAN member states including Indonesia.

Unlike the Hainan scheme, this exemption is only valid for tourist groups with a minimum of 2 people. All trips must be arranged and hosted by an officially registered travel agent based in China.

Travellers may only enter and exit via three designated border points: Xishuangbanna Gasa International Airport, Mohan Railway Port, and Mohan Road Port.

Provided all requirements are met, tourist groups may stay within the administrative boundaries of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture for a maximum of 6 days.

This policy applies to citizens of all ASEAN member states: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

3. Guilin: Visa-Free Group Travel

Located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guilin also provides visa-free entry for tourist groups from ASEAN countries. Similar to the Xishuangbanna scheme, this policy requires a minimum group size of 2 travellers.

All travellers must book their trip through an officially registered Chinese travel agent, and may only enter and exit the country via Guilin airport.

The maximum permitted stay is 6 days, and all travel activities are restricted exclusively within Guilin's administrative boundaries.

This scheme provides an option for Indonesian Tourists planning a short trip to Guilin, allowing travel without applying for a standard visa.

That said, all travellers are still advised to verify the latest official requirements prior to departure, including approved travel agents and valid entry points.

Indonesia's inclusion on the eligibility list for China's regional visa-free policies provides Indonesian travellers with additional options for holidays to China.

Hainan allows stays of up to 30 days, while Xishuangbanna and Guilin offer a maximum 6 day stay with specific requirements for group travel.

These differing regulations should be carefully considered when selecting a travel destination. Note that these regional visa exemptions do not grant permission to travel across the whole of China, or leave the designated region, without first meeting all additional immigration requirements.
