Carabao Cup Result: Manchester City ran riot scoring 5 goals against Norwich, with Brighton awaiting them in the Round of 16.

Manchester City gave Norwich City no opportunity to pull off an upset at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens thrashed the Championship side with a dominant 5-0 scoreline in the 2026/27 Carabao Cup third round on Friday WIB, successfully securing their spot in the Round of 16.

This victory became a breakout stage for several young Manchester City players. Floyd Samba stole the spotlight with two goals, while Rayan Cherki, Allan, and Ryan McAidoo each recorded one goal apiece.

City were unable to find gaps in the opposition defence immediately at the start of the match. Norwich held their backline solidly, until sustained pressure from the home side finally produced a goal in the 29th minute.

Samba opened City's goal rout. Meeting a cross from Allan, Samba connected with a well-placed header past Daniel Grimshaw. The ball curled perfectly into the bottom left corner of Norwich's goal.

Just three minutes later, City extended their advantage. Cherki finished off a through pass from Ayyoub Bouaddi, a player who had only made two senior starts for the club up to this match.

The French winger then rounded Grimshaw cleanly to put City 2-0 ahead. Norwich attempted to hold firm until half-time to limit the scoreline damage.

That defensive plan only lasted three minutes into the second half. City found the net once again, this time through Allan.

Receiving a layoff pass from Rayan Ait-Nouri, Allan dummied past Sam Field before firing a driven shot into the far corner. This goal carried special significance: it marked Allan's debut goal for City, after joining the club from Palmeiras the previous month.

Norwich found themselves increasingly trapped under City's pressure after Samba scored his second goal in the 54th minute. Capitalising on a poor turnover from the opposition defence, Samba unleashed a curling finish into the bottom right corner of Norwich's goal.

Scoring twice in a single fixture made Samba one of the standout performers from City's victory.

Samba had a clear chance to complete a hat-trick and cap off his perfect night. This opportunity never materialised however, as the England U17 international was substituted off by head coach Enzo Maresca.

Norwich did briefly put the ball in the net via Mohamed Toure. The goal was immediately ruled out, as Toure was found to be in an offside position.

Manchester City sealed the match with their fifth goal in the 90th minute. McAidoo exploited open space created by Rico Lewis' intelligent off-ball movement, converting the chance to finalise the 5-0 winning scoreline.

Alongside confirming their place in the last 16, this result also extends Manchester City's long-running dominant record in the Carabao Cup against lower division opposition.

City have now won 19 consecutive League Cup fixtures against sides from lower English divisions. This record underlines how incredibly difficult it has become for lower league clubs to stop City's progress in this competition.

The last time City were knocked out of this cup by a lower division side dates back to the second round of the 2008/09 season. On that occasion, they were eliminated on penalties by Brighton and Hove Albion, who were competing in the English third tier at the time.

In a notable narrative twist, Brighton will face Manchester City in this season's Round of 16. Fabian Hurzeler's side booked their own place in the next round after staging a comeback victory to beat Manchester United 3-2.
