Jakarta and Bogor hold strong potential to attract more tourists from South Korea. The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) has begun exploring the development of integrated travel packages combining nature tourism, family recreation, culture, history, and urban experiences, as part of efforts to expand Indonesia's tourism market share in the country.

This initiative is being executed through a Familiarization Trip (famtrip) scheduled for 12–16 October 2026. The programme will involve representatives from nine South Korean travel agencies alongside three delegates from Trinity Airways, to provide first-hand exposure to the tourism potential of Jakarta and Bogor.

Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, explained that this activity is not solely intended to introduce the destinations, but also to create pathways for Indonesian Tourism products to be listed in official travel catalogues marketed within South Korea.

"The final target is not just for participants to learn about Indonesian destinations. We want them to see first-hand that these offerings hold commercial value, and can be included in their travel catalogues and holiday packages. This way, the famtrip will deliver tangible contributions towards increasing tourist arrivals from South Korea to Indonesia," stated Ni Made Ayu Marthini.

Over the five-day itinerary, participants will visit destinations with distinct characteristics. Bogor will showcase nature and adventure tourism experiences, while Jakarta will present a combination of urban recreation, heritage sites, culture, culinary offerings, and premium accommodation facilities.

Bogor Offers Nature Tourism and Family Recreation

Bogor is being presented to the South Korean travel agents through a variety of curated outdoor activities. This region holds strong potential to be developed as a family holiday destination that blends adventure, education, and immersive natural atmosphere.

One of the experiences trialled by participants included trekking, body rafting, and river tubing at Curug Naga. These activities allow tourists to enjoy unspoiled natural landscapes while participating in moderately challenging recreational activities.

The group also visited Cimory Dairyland Farm Theme Park Puncak and Taman Safari Indonesia. Both destinations offer accessible family recreation options, including structured educational experiences related to wildlife and Environmental Conservation.

For tourists seeking quiet mountain atmosphere, a glamping stay experience at Damar Langit was also included in the itinerary. The panoramic natural views and peaceful surroundings are positioned as a key draw for travellers looking to escape busy urban routines.

This combination of adventure tourism, family recreation, and unique accommodation creates an opportunity for Bogor to be developed as a travel choice for South Korean tourists, including Free Independent Travellers (FIT) arranging their own itineraries.

Jakarta Presents Heritage Tourism, Aquarium Attractions and Culinary Experiences

In contrast to Bogor's focus on nature tourism, Jakarta offers travel experiences within a dense urban setting. Famtrip participants were introduced to destinations that blend history, traditional culture, modern recreation, and contemporary lifestyle.

The National Museum was highlighted as a primary venue that can introduce Indonesia's rich historical and cultural heritage to international tourists. Meanwhile, Jakarta Aquarium provides an indoor, weather-proof alternative recreation option for travelling families.

Jakarta's appeal is further strengthened by its range of international standard premium accommodation. During the programme, participants experienced the facilities at Keraton at The Plaza and Grand Hyatt Jakarta, demonstrating the capital's established potential for the luxury tourism segment.

The travel experience was complemented by curated culinary stops at Semaja and SKYE by Ismaya Group. Aside from the dining experience, these venues showcase modern Indonesian culinary concepts, including rooftop restaurants with unobstructed panoramic city views.

This combination of heritage sites, recreation, culinary offerings, and quality accommodation provides complete options for tourists looking to enjoy a full urban experience within a single trip.

South Korean Travel Agents See Potential in Indonesian Tourism

Alongside visiting the destinations, the famtrip also served as a structured networking platform to bring South Korean travel agents together with Indonesian tourism industry stakeholders. These meetings are expected to open formal business cooperation opportunities, ranging from itinerary design to joint travel package marketing.

Industry stakeholders that took part in the networking sessions included accommodation operators, attraction managers, transport providers, and professional travel management companies.

Park Sinung, representative from Trinity Airways, assessed that Jakarta and Bogor have untapped potential to attract South Korean tourists through their varied, complementary tourism offerings.

"Developing these experiences into travel packages that align with the established preferences of South Korean tourists will significantly strengthen the appeal of Jakarta and Bogor in the Korean market," Park Sinung commented.

Lee Sohoo from Hana Tour shared this assessment. He noted the tourism potential of both regions from their diverse accommodation options, accessible outdoor activities, wildlife attractions, living culture, and distinct culinary scene.

He also emphasised the critical importance of improving travel comfort through optimised route planning, adjusted visiting hours, as well as consistent provision of Korean language information and certified tour guides.

Yulia, Director for International Tourism Marketing II at the Ministry of Tourism, expressed hope that this programme will result in concrete follow-up actions to develop and distribute travel packages tailored to the needs of the South Korean market.

"Through this famtrip, we want to demonstrate that Jakarta and Bogor offer an extremely diverse combination of tourism products, covering urban experiences, heritage, culture, nature, wildlife, right through to specialised family holiday activities," Yulia stated.

Flight Connectivity Supports Tourism Development Opportunities

Development of Jakarta and Bogor travel packages is also supported by the direct Seoul–Jakarta flight connection operated by Trinity Airways. This direct flight service will drastically reduce travel friction for South Korean tourists visiting Indonesia.

With their complementary destination offerings, Jakarta can be positioned both as a standalone urban tourism destination, as well as the primary international entry gateway for onward travel to Bogor and other regions across Indonesia.

Moving forward, the success of this programme will depend on consistent follow-up cooperation with travel agencies, development of competitively priced packages, and continuous alignment of tourism products with the evolving needs of South Korean tourists.

If developed on a sustainable, long-term basis, Jakarta and Bogor can offer even more varied, complete holiday experiences for international tourists, ranging from remote open-air nature adventures right through to cultural and culinary tourism in the heart of the capital city.
