Liverpool immediately took attacking initiative right from the start of the match. In the 9th minute, Cody Gakpo obtained an opportunity after finding shooting space near Brighton's penalty box. However, his attempt directed towards the right side of the goal did not prove challenging enough for Bart Verbruggen.
Brighton responded to this threat through Yasin Ayari in the 15th minute. After receiving a pass inside the penalty area, Ayari attempted to convert the chance he had. Unfortunately, the player's shot sailed high over the crossbar of Liverpool's goal.
Liverpool's pressure finally paid off in the 17th minute. Florian Wirtz fired a shot from outside the penalty box which deflected off Pascal Gross. This sudden change in the ball's trajectory left Verbruggen unable to react in time, as the ball crossed the line into Brighton's goal. Liverpool took a 1-0 lead.
The hosts extended their advantage in the 21st minute. Starting with a delivered pass from Barcola, Alexander Isak received a clear golden opportunity right in front of goal. The Liverpool striker successfully converted this chance to put his side further ahead with a 2-0 score.
Brighton attempted to reduce the deficit before the halftime break. In the 36th minute, Yasin Ayari unleashed a long-range shot that very nearly resulted in a goal. However, the ball only struck the right post of Liverpool's goal, leaving the score unchanged.
By the time the first half final whistle was blown, Liverpool remained in control with their two-goal lead.
Entering the second half, Brighton increased their attacking intensity in an attempt to close the gap. The visiting side tried to find gaps in Liverpool's defensive line, but the hosts maintained their match organisation effectively.
Liverpool ultimately held on to their 2-0 lead until the full time whistle. This result confirms The Reds secured all three points at home, while remaining competitive in the upper ranks of the English League Standings 2026/2027.
