Veda Ega Pratama has accepted the event organiser's decision to cancel the 2026 Australian Moto3 Grand Prix at the Phillip Island Circuit on Sunday, 25 October 2026. While disappointed to lose the chance to compete from the front starting position, the Honda Team Asia rider confirmed he respects the race direction's call which was made for rider safety.
"I respect the decision from the race direction," Veda stated, as quoted from Honda Team Asia's official X social media account on Sunday 25 October 2026.
The Moto3 race was cancelled due to heavy rain and thick fog that severely limited visibility and disrupted medical helicopter operations. This cancellation also meant Veda lost the opportunity to take part in the final Moto3 race held at Phillip Island, before the Australian Grand Prix is scheduled to relocate to Adelaide in 2027.

Veda Ega's Historic Pole Position
Veda had entered the race with strong prospects to fight for a podium finish. The 17-year-old rider from Wonosari, Special Region of Yogyakarta, set the fastest time in the second qualifying session (Q2) on Saturday 24 October, recording a lap time of 1 minute 35.299 seconds.
This result secured him pole position, and marked history as the first ever Indonesian rider to claim first place on the starting grid in a Moto3 World Championship Grand Prix. Veda also achieved this milestone on his very first appearance at Phillip Island with Honda Team Asia.
However, pride over this achievement was mixed with disappointment, as he was unable to convert his front grid position into an official race result.
"I am sad that this is the final season at Phillip Island. On top of that, I earned my very first pole position right here," said Veda.
Phillip Island first hosted the Australian Grand Prix in 1989. From 2027 onwards the championship round will move to the Adelaide street circuit, making the 2026 event the very last chance for Veda to compete at this iconic track.
Focus Shifts To Malaysian Grand Prix
Following the cancelled Australian race, Veda has turned his attention to the next championship round: the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang Circuit, scheduled for 30 October to 1 November 2026.
"I cannot wait to race in Malaysia. See everyone there next week," he added.
Veda currently sits 8th in the 2026 Moto3 temporary standings with 111 points. He holds an 8 point advantage over Malaysian rider Hakim Danish of Aeon Credit–MT Helmets–MSi, who has collected 103 points this season.
Meanwhile, Maximo Quiles of CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team has already mathematically secured the 2026 Moto3 World Championship title with 351 points. No rival can catch his lead even with 4 rounds remaining on the calendar: Malaysia, Qatar, Portugal and Valencia.
For Veda, the Malaysian Grand Prix will be the next opportunity to continue his 2026 campaign.
His Phillip Island pole position remains a major career milestone for this young Indonesian rider, even though the chance to prove his race pace was cut short by the bad weather conditions.
