The away fixture of Indonesia National Football Team against Jordan for the November 2026 FIFA Match Day is at risk of cancellation, due to the ongoing unstable security situation across the Middle East. PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir has confirmed that player safety will be the absolute top priority before the federation makes any official decision regarding this Match Schedule.

John Herdman's squad is originally scheduled to face Jordan at Amman International Stadium on 13 November. This fixture is part of the Garuda Squad's preparation campaign ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup which will be held in Saudi Arabia this coming January.

However, following recent developments of the security situation in the Middle East region, this plan is now under review. Thohir acknowledged that current security conditions remain concerning, meaning PSSI cannot yet confirm that the match will go ahead as planned.

"The situation unfolding in the Middle East right now is deeply concerning. Just recently, Jordan launched strikes on Syria following an attack on a place of worship. This is a very worrying development for us," Thohir stated in Jakarta.

PSSI continues to monitor security updates before deciding on further steps. The chairman emphasized that the federation will not risk player safety simply to proceed with an international match agenda.

"We are still waiting for clear security assessments regarding the ongoing tensions in the region. We can see that multiple countries across the Middle East are facing uncertain conditions right now. The safety of our players must come first," he added.

PSSI Seeking Alternative Opponents For November FIFA Match Day

As a contingency measure in the event the Jordan fixture is cancelled, PSSI is preparing backup options. However, Thohir noted that the federation has not yet secured an alternative opponent to replace Jordan should the match be unable to go ahead.

An official decision will be made within the next one to two days. PSSI will also coordinate with the Indonesian government to ensure all steps taken prioritise the safety of the Garuda squad.

"This is something we will have to finalise a decision on within the next 1 or 2 days. One thing is certain, we will work closely with the government, first and foremost to guarantee the safety of our players," Thohir stated.

Amidst all this uncertainty, one matter Thohir has confirmed is that Indonesia will not host a home match for this November FIFA Match Day window.

John Herdman's squad is still set to play an away fixture, though both the opponent and match venue will need to be confirmed should the planned Jordan fixture fall through.

The decision not to host at home is due to Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta currently undergoing maintenance works, alongside prior bookings for several large scale events.

Additionally, PSSI has a separate objective: using away international fixtures to build the players' competitive mentality when playing under pressure from opposition home crowds.

"There was already an agreed commitment that the national team would play overseas this November. This is also part of building character and resilience for the squad when playing away from home," explained Thohir, who also serves as Indonesia's Minister of Youth and Sports.

As it stands, Indonesia's national team schedule for November is still awaiting official confirmation from PSSI.

Should the match against Jordan be deemed unfeasible due to security concerns, the federation will immediately finalise alternative arrangements. This is to ensure the 2027 Asian Cup preparation programme remains on track, without ever compromising player safety.
