Honda Team Asia rider Veda Ega Pratama has made a promising start to the 2026 Malaysian Moto3 event. The Indonesian rider finished third in Friday practice at Sepang Circuit, securing positive momentum for the remainder of the race Weekend.

Veda delivered consistent performance right from the opening session. He concluded Free Practice 1 (FP1) in 4th position before improving to take 3rd place in the follow-up practice run. This result confirms Veda is capable of competing at the front of the field from the very first day of the event.

Veda is satisfied with the motorcycle's development progress and the results he has achieved. He noted the opening day of the Malaysian round went according to plan, most notably that he was able to build confidence behind the handlebars right from the first session.

"I am very happy with today's results. This is an excellent start to the weekend, and I have felt comfortable and confident on the bike right from the beginning," Veda stated in an official Honda Team Asia press release.

The 17-year-old rider utilised both day one sessions to collect on-track telemetry data and refine the optimal motorcycle setup. This work forms a critical foundation for his preparation ahead of the competitive field at Sepang.

"I tried to complete as many laps as possible during both the morning and afternoon sessions, while also working to dial in the best possible bike setup," he added.

Not all challenges have been resolved however. Track surfaces on the first day did not provide maximum grip levels. Veda is monitoring this situation closely, as shifting weather patterns have the potential to disrupt all upcoming sessions.

Veda is also accounting for possible Rain during FP2 and qualifying. He acknowledges that wet track conditions could completely alter the competitive dynamic, but he remains optimistic following his strong opening day performance.

"There is a chance of rain tomorrow, so we will just wait and see how things develop. The most important thing right now is we have good feeling with the bike and a strong starting position heading into qualifying," Veda explained.

This Sepang result marks another positive milestone in Veda's Asian championship campaign. Prior to this round, he finished 11th at the Japanese Moto3, before improving to claim 6th place at the Mandalika Moto3 event.

Veda had previously been set to showcase his speed at last weekend's Australian Moto3. He had qualified at the very front of the grid, only to lose the chance to race after the entire event was cancelled due to Extreme Weather conditions.

Now Veda has another opportunity to demonstrate his full potential in Malaysia. His third place practice result provides valuable momentum, though he will still need to maintain consistency and adapt to evolving track conditions ahead of qualifying and the main race.
