Indonesia's national Surfing team is finalising preparations ahead of the ISA World Surfing Games 2026 in Peru. Six Red and White surfers are adapting to local wave characteristics and weather conditions ahead of the world championship, which will take place 6–15 November 2026.

Organised by the International Surfing Association (ISA), this championship acts as one of the qualification pathways to secure surfing quota spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The Indonesian Team arrived in Lima, Peru on Thursday (29/10/2026), after departing from their home country one day prior. The delegation then visited the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Lima on Friday (30/10/2026), before commencing their on-water preparation schedule.

Athletes completed their first training session at Caballeros Beach on Saturday (31/10/2026). Preparations continued afterwards at Punta Rocas, one of the official competition venues, to familiarise the team with local wave behaviour, currents and water conditions.

Adapting to Peru's Waves and Weather

Dylan Amartha, coach of the Indonesian National Surfing Team, confirmed the athletes have completed initial training sessions successfully. However, the squad still requires adjustment time for the local climate and time zone difference following the long international journey from Indonesia.

"Training sessions are going smoothly, we are still acclimatising to the weather. This is our second day at Punta Rocas, there is still mild jetlag affecting the team," Dylan stated to ANTARA News via private message on Monday, 02/11/2026.

Dylan also confirmed the team is preparing for changing swell conditions once official competition begins. He noted that training waves have been high quality, however a large storm swell system is forecast to arrive for the opening days of the championship.

"Waves are excellent right now. There is risk of a major swell storm hitting for the first event day, but we are prepared for this scenario," he added.

Six Athletes Representing Indonesia

Indonesia will field six athletes across two competition divisions: Men's Shortboard and Women's Shortboard.

In the men's division, Indonesia is represented by Rio Waida, I Made Pajar Ariyana, and Dhany Widianto. The women's squad consists of Jasmine Studer, Kya Jo Heuer, and Hanasuri Jabrik.

Rio Waida stands as Indonesia's core competitive asset. The nation's lead surfer holds prior Olympic experience having competed at both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games.

The Indonesian delegation also includes four support personnel: coaches Tip Jabrik and Dylan Amartha, team manager Egy Hilman, and assistant team manager Alex Hontoria.

Competition Staged Across Two Venues

The 2026 ISA World Surfing Games will operate under a double podium format, with competition held across two Peruvian locations: Punta Rocas and El Bosque.

Both venues feature distinct wave characteristics that will challenge competing athletes. Punta Rocas is known for both left and right breaking reef waves, while El Bosque produces consistent left breaking surf.

The championship schedule will open with the official team managers meeting on 5 November, followed by the opening ceremony on 6 November. Official competition will run from 7 through 15 November 2026.

Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Qualification Pathway

The 2026 ISA World Surfing Games carries high stakes for Indonesia, as this event is one of the official qualification stages for surfing at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Under official ISA qualification rules, the highest ranked men's and women's national teams at this championship will each secure one Olympic quota spot.

Two total Olympic quotas will be awarded here, one for each gender division. These quota places are allocated to the respective National Olympic Committee (NOC), and are not automatically granted to individual event winners.

Athletes selected to fill awarded quota spots will be confirmed by each NOC in compliance with official Olympic Qualification regulations.

For Indonesia, this competition in Peru presents a critical opportunity to showcase national surfing standards on the global stage, while significantly improving the nation's chances of qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
