Andrea Kimi Antonelli has secured the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship title after delivering an impressive season performance with Mercedes. Claiming nine victories out of 19 races was one of the key factors that carried the Italian driver to the top of the Standings.

Antonelli officially locked in the championship title after finishing third at the Mexico Grand Prix, held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez Circuit on Sunday, 1 November 2026 local time.

This result was sufficient to seal his maiden world championship, even with four race rounds still remaining in the 2026 season. Antonelli's points advantage has become completely unassailable for all rival drivers in the title battle.

According to official Formula 1 statistics, Antonelli had accumulated 380 total points following the Mexico Grand Prix. He holds a commanding lead over all competitors after delivering consistent performances across the entire season.

Nine Victories Formed The Foundation For Kimi Antonelli's Title Run

Antonelli's path to the world championship was not built on just one or two standout race results. The Mercedes driver secured nine total victories, a tally no other driver had matched by the time of the Mexico Grand Prix.

Prior to confirming the title, Antonelli also recorded a critical victory at the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas, Austin on 25 October 2026.

This win in the United States further strengthened his position in the championship race. Entering the Mexico Grand Prix, Antonelli held a 123-point lead over his Mercedes teammate George Russell based on pre-race standings.

This gap meant Antonelli only needed to finish inside the top nine positions to lock the championship, with no reliance on how his rivals performed.

Even though he could have secured the title with a far more conservative result, Antonelli crossed the line in third place at the Mexico Grand Prix. He finished behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, who was competing for Ferrari.

This result demonstrated Antonelli's ability to manage pressure during an incident-packed race. The Mexico Grand Prix was temporarily red flagged following a crash involving Valtteri Bottas, and later saw an additional Safety Car period due to an incident with Arvid Lindblad.

Antonelli's Consistency Carries Mercedes To Championship Glory

Nine victories were a critical pillar of Antonelli's success this season. However, his consistent front-running finishes also made a massive contribution to his final points haul.

Official Formula 1 records show Antonelli scored 16 podium finishes from the first 19 Grand Prix rounds up to the Mexico race. This statistic proves he was not only capable of winning races, but also regularly completed events with strong points-scoring results.

This form also reflects Mercedes' success in supporting the development of their young driver. Antonelli successfully capitalised on every available opportunity, converting them into competitive results race after race all season long.

This achievement also holds special national significance for Italy. Antonelli is the first Italian driver to win the Formula 1 World Championship since Alberto Ascari in 1953.

With this maiden title, Antonelli now joins the ranks of Formula 1's youngest ever world champions. He also writes his name in the record books as the youngest World Champion in the entire history of the sport.

This championship marks the perfect conclusion to Antonelli's 2026 campaign. Nine race wins, 16 podium finishes and a final tally of 380 points stand as the defining statistics of his historic title-winning season with Mercedes.
