indonesiatravelsport.com - The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 trophy has been unveiled to the Indonesian public for the very first time. The trophy for this brand new Southeast Asian football tournament was displayed at the 2026 Indonesia Sports Summit (ISS), held at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JCC).

Brought directly from Zurich, Switzerland, the trophy was placed at the FIFA Booth area during the 2026 ISS event.

The public appearance of the trophy also marks that the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup tournament is drawing ever closer. Indonesia will be one of the host nations for this competition, which is being held for the first time ever in the Southeast Asian region.

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir welcomed FIFA's trust in appointing Indonesia as host. He expressed gratitude to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and called on all national football stakeholders to unite and ensure the tournament runs successfully.

"Indonesia has once again been entrusted as a host, this time for the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup. We previously hosted the 2023 U-17 World Cup. This is an honour for all of us. I hope every football stakeholder can stand united to support the FIFA ASEAN Cup," Erick stated in an official PSSI press release on Saturday.

Erick attended the event alongside several FIFA representatives: Lavin Vignesh, FIFA Lead Regional Office; Karan Mirchandani, FIFA MA Development Manager; Chen Jun, FIFA Senior MA Development Manager; and Simon Toselli, FIFA Women's Football Regional Lead for Asia.

This is the inaugural edition of the FIFA ASEAN Cup. A total of 14 countries will participate in the tournament, with matches held across Indonesia and Hong Kong from 24 September to 5 October 2026.

Indonesia will host Division One. The eight participating nations in this division are divided into two groups.

Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Bangladesh are drawn into Group A. Meanwhile Group B consists of Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Pakistan.

Hong Kong will host Division Two, which features six participants split across two separate groups.

Hong Kong, Laos and Brunei Darussalam are placed in Division Two Group A, while Group B comprises Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Myanmar.

For Indonesia, holding status as both host nation and Division One participant presents a major opportunity. Erick expressed hope that the national team can capitalise on this momentum to pursue the highest possible achievement.

"The 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup carries great significance and meaning for football across the Southeast Asian region. Let us stand together to support the Indonesian National Team. We hope the coaching staff and players will give their absolute best. This is our big chance to claim the top honour," Erick explained.

Following the trophy exhibition session, the 2026 ISS also hosted a discussion featuring three legendary former Indonesian national team players who shared insights on Southeast Asian football competition.

Ismed Sofyan, Gendut Doni and Zaenal Arief took part in the talkshow, where they analysed the strength of Indonesia's potential opponents as well as shared their own experiences playing in high-stakes matches across the ASEAN region.

Ismed noted that being the host nation is one of Indonesia's key advantages. He stated that supporter backing and squad composition will be critical factors for the Indonesian National Team's tournament campaign.

"We all hope the Indonesian National Team will become champions at the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup. Myself, Gendut Doni and Zaenal Arief are very optimistic. Playing on home soil, combined with the quality of the final squad and most importantly full support from national team fans, gives us great reason for confidence," said Ismed.

The trophy exhibition at 2026 ISS is far more than just a ceremonial agenda. As the kickoff for the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup draws ever nearer, this trophy serves as a clear reminder: Indonesia's chance to fight for the title will begin very soon.
