The Borobudur & Beyond Tourism Expo (BBTE) 2026 is one of the initiatives to strengthen Business networks while expanding promotion for Tourism Destinations across Central Java. By facilitating direct meetings between tourism industry players and prospective business partners, this event opens up new cooperation opportunities for destination managers, hotels, tourism villages, as well as Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Carrying the concept of a Business to Business (B2B) Tourism Marketplace, BBTE 2026 brings together tourism business actors with travel agents, tour operators, destination management companies, corporate buyers, and the Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) industry.

BBTE 2026 Committee Chairman Sugeng Sugiantoro stated that this event is designed as a productive business meeting space. Participants will not only have the opportunity to introduce their flagship products and destinations, but also build communication with potential partners that can lead to tangible cooperation agreements.

One of the mechanisms implemented is the Pre-Scheduled Appointment (PSA), a structured meeting scheduling system for buyers and sellers. This system is intended to enable focused, effective communication, increasing the likelihood that collaboration opportunities will be developed after the event concludes.

"We also express our appreciation for the support from the Magelang Regency Government, Magelang City Government, Central Java Provincial Government, as well as all industry partners who have contributed to organising this event. It is our hope that BBTE 2026 will not only serve as a business meeting forum, but also deliver economic benefits for local communities and the tourism industry in Magelang and Central Java as a whole," he stated.

Strengthening Tourism Promotion for Borobudur and Magelang

The Borobudur region and Magelang hold strong potential to develop both as a Tourist Destination and a MICE event location. However, this potential requires proper market access support, distribution networks, and sustainable collaboration in order to reach a wider base of visitors.

BBTE 2026 works to address this need by connecting destination managers with industry players that already have established broad marketing networks. The presence of regional exhibition pavilions is designed to provide local tourism business operators the chance to present their products directly to prospective partners.

Alongside business matchmaking sessions, the organisers are also hosting 11 MSME booths from Magelang Regency and Magelang City. The participation of these local enterprises expands the promotion reach for regional products, while also ensuring that the benefits of tourism activities can be felt by local residents.

As such, BBTE 2026 does not only focus on business transactions between industry players, but also serves as an opportunity to showcase local product heritage to wider market networks.

BBTE 2026 Event Series Runs Until 28 October

The BBTE 2026 event series commences on 25 October with participant registration and a Buyer Networking Dinner, hosted by the Magelang Regency Government at Manohara Borobudur Restaurant.

On 26 October, activities continue with the opening ceremony, business matchmaking sessions, and a welcome dinner at Puri Asri Hotel & Resort. Business agendas proceed on 27 October, concluding with a Farewell Dinner at Magelang City's Pendopo Pengabdian, supported by the Magelang City Government.

The full event series is completed with a Buyer Post-Tour on 28 October 2026. Invited buyers will be scheduled to visit the Borobudur Temple complex, enjoy lunch at Nalendro Cafe Borobudur, and be introduced to Magelang's tourism potentials and local products.

This on-site visit forms a critical part of destination promotion. By experiencing the actual conditions and attractions first-hand, buyers will gain a complete understanding required to develop travel packages aligned with market demands.

This experience creates opportunities for local destinations and business operators to be included in the marketing networks operated by travel agencies and tour operators.

BBTE 2026 Drives Economic Impact For Local Communities

Business meetings, destination promotion, and Tourism Visits form three complementary core pillars of BBTE 2026. The B2B matchmaking sessions open partnership opportunities, while first-hand destination introduction allows buyers to assess Tourism Potential that can be developed into marketable travel products.

Hosting this event is also expected to stimulate all supporting tourism sectors, including accommodation, transport, culinary services, tourist attractions, and MSMEs. Collaboration between government bodies, industry actors, and destination managers is identified as a key factor to maximise widespread economic benefits.

Through BBTE 2026, Magelang and the Borobudur region gain the opportunity to reinforce their position both as a leading tourist destination and a tourism business meeting hub. It is expected that the sustainable partnerships formed during this event will expand market reach and drive long-term growth for the regional tourism industry.
